Pomegranate Mural Collective

Pomegranate Mural Collective We're a community group investing in the vibrancy of the K-W cityscape through the creation of commu Who are we? What do we do? Where do we operate?

We are a group of creative, community-minded individuals and organizations investing in the vibrancy of the K-W cityscape through the design, creation, and completion of community-based murals in our city’s public space. Our Artistic Director, Pamela Rojas, has been actively engaged in the logistical and artistic elements of muralism in the Waterloo Region for the last 10 years and brings a deep o

f knowledge about effective mural practice to our community. The collective exists because of the generous energy and time given by volunteers who help to bring life to the murals and assist in making connections and building relationships in our city. Our vision is to make murals that belong to the communities in which they are located, and that serve as visual markers of community togetherness. We are committed to making a positive social impact in the Kitchener-Waterloo community through creating space for grassroots, democratic action and expression in the form of collaborative art-making. We are a collective invested in the growth, education, and flourishing of our community through the practice of muralism. The Mural Collective is dedicated to the completion of murals that generate community discussion and education, as well as beautifying our cityscape and prompting social change. In collaboration with a host of community partners, the Mural Collective works to recover or rejuvenate banal urban walls and blanket them with bursts of colour with a social purpose. Each mural represents the collaborative capacity for us to alter our environments and communities for the better with our bare hands. The Mural Collective focuses its actions in the urban centres of Kitchener and Waterloo with the hope of creating murals that are clearly visible to a large number of people in our communities. Our centre of operations is in Pamela Rojas’ studio at Globe Studios (141 Whitney Pl) in Kitchener, ON. How do we operate? Based on the practice and experience of Artistic Director, Pamela Rojas, the Mural collective has a proven-effective method of mural design and production. Pamela has established a dynamic model of community engagement that has successfully led to the creation of eleven murals in the Waterloo Region. Our leadership team is composed of Artistic Director Pamela Rojas, and Creative Administrator Eric Van Giessen. This project relies on the financial support of community partners who are looking to invest in the vibrancy and community of our urban centres through mural creation. Volunteers can fill in a registration form to keep up to date with PMC’s current projects and to let us know how you would like to get involved. We are excited to have you get involved with the PMC’s work in the Waterloo Region.
