It's FINALLY here! The King Community BBQ kicks off at 5:30 pm, with a BBQ provided by the Knights of Columbus - King City, Joe's Ice Cream Truck will be serving up delicious treats, and there will be plenty to do - tours of the heritage buildings, learn about some of King's Local Legends, challenge the family to some lawn games, and enjoy some good food and great company!

Even though registration is closed, people are still welcome to attend. Free on-site parking is limited, so please consider carpooling.

Baseball has been bringing King Township communities together for well over a century. One of the earliest local teams was the Jollytown Baseball Club of Kettleby, photographed here in 1887 and formed by some of the area's early settlers.

By the 1920s, the game was thriving in King's schools. The Kinghorn Girls' Baseball Team benefited from the leadership of teacher and coach Walter Rolling, who proudly noted that some of his best athletes were girls and that they often outplayed the boys on the diamond.

King's baseball and softball tradition continued to grow. In 1939 and 1940, the Schomberg Softball Team earned the title of Ontario Rural Champions, cementing the community's reputation for excellence in the sport.

From the Jollytown club to championship softball teams and today's local leagues, baseball and softball have long been woven into the fabric of King Township's history.

Women ahead of their time!

Did you know King Township was home to a women's basketball team in 1903?

The Laskay Ladies Basketball Team was playing nearly a decade before the famous Edmonton Grads were established in 1912. At a time when organized women's sports opportunities were limited, these local athletes were already breaking barriers and making history.

Trailblazers in every sense of the word and unfortunately, they remain unnamed. If you know any of the athletes in this picture, please reach out to us.

Are you looking for a quick and easy crochet project to do over the summer? Help us create a field of poppies to honour those from King who served.

Once completed, these poppies will be added to the 351 created last year by members of the Happy Hookers Group with the King Township Seniors Club. The poppies will be the centre of a moving display in the community this Fall.

Find your free patterns below - any completed poppies can be dropped off at the King Heritage & Cultural Centre or the King City Seniors' Centre.

The King Township Historical Society (KTHS) is launching its first-ever Canadian Battlefields Tour for members in September 2027! KTHS will be hosting an in-person Information Session for anyone interested in learning more on Friday, July 10th at 10am at the King City Seniors Centre (1970 King Rd, King City, ON).

From the beaches of Normandy to the fields of Flanders, trace Canada's profound role in both the Second World War and the Great War. Begin in Paris before travelling to Caen and the hallowed shores of Normandy, where Canadian forces landed on Juno Beach on D-Day. Continue north through France and Belgium to Ypres, where seven King Township soldiers who fell in the Ypres Salient are among the thousands of British and Commonwealth soldiers commemorated at the Menin Gate and honoured during the nightly Last Post Ceremony. Stand at the Vimy Ridge Memorial, where Canadian forces achieved one of their most remarkable victories, before concluding the journey in Amsterdam, a city liberated by the First Canadian Army in 1945.

Please note that this is a custom private tour for KTHS members only. Non-KTHS members can participate by becoming a KTHS member ($25 individual / $30 family).

The King Heritage & Cultural Centre is pleased to present Minimalist/Maximalist, a limited engagement exhibition of mixed-media artwork by Gerald Wayne McLeod.

Gerald Wayne McLeod is an Ontario-based visual artist, educator, and member of the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. McLeod has worked extensively as a fine art teacher and gallery educator, contributing to institutions such as the Robert McLaughlin Gallery and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. His practice reflects decades of engagement with both public and community-based art spaces.

Most recently working in contemporary and abstract forms, McLeod’s art often incorporates mixed media and explores themes of memory, emotion, and identity. While aspects of his Indigenous heritage inform his work, he situates his practice within a broader contemporary Canadian context, inviting viewers to interpret meaning through personal experience.

McLeod’s work reflects a deep belief in the enduring importance of art as a companion to life and a means of connection between artist and audience.
