Something rather wonderful has been happening.
Over the past few months, I have begun going back through photographs, catalogues, articles and boxes of material documenting my early work as a feminist artist.
The timing has been remarkable. I have recently been invited to contribute documentation of my work from 1979–1989 to a new initiative researching and documenting feminist artists working during that period.
At the same time, Geraldine's Gallery is being updated to tell more of that story.
The newly updated website begins with Pink Lullabies, one of my early feminist installations. Even more special to me, the woman who interviewed me about the work for Fireweed magazine in 1980 has now helped revisit that history all these years later.
There is something quite extraordinary about looking back at work you made more than four decades ago — remembering what you were trying to say, discovering things you had forgotten, and realizing that some of those ideas still resonate today.
This is only the beginning. Over the coming months, I will be sharing more of the photographs, artwork, performances, exhibitions and stories that are emerging from my archives.
I hope you'll follow along.
