Dale And His Pencils

Dale And His Pencils As a Black on White Pencil artist I constantly strive to save and reconnect us to our past and roots. Without the past, there is no present or future.

I try to capture the emotions, the hardship, the spirits, and the pain that my subjects have endured. The battles and the scars. The broken dreams. The end of a dream. With my pencils I can go back in time. I can cross all Race, colors and cultures. I try to preserve some of our past so we can truly appreciate what we have now. I am very spiritual and roots are very important to me and I hope to y

ou. I am a proud member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. In March of 2011 I was awarded my Signature Level Status 'Associate of the Federation of Canadian Artists'. Dale’s Artist Statement

‘Bringing an ancient art form into the modern world in a sharp, crisp, dramatic style’

Allen Dale Redfern was born in Stettler, Alberta, Canada, in 1943. He was raised in a very poor environment, and survived through some very bad experiences. As a result, Dale is a very emotional, spiritual, extrovert, & deep thinker. He is a self-taught pencil artist who started drawing seriously at the young age of fourteen. He experimented with many subjects, including people, animals, buildings & life drawing. He joined a small Sign Shop at the age of eighteen and spent over thirty years in the sign business.

Because of his upbringing, Dale loves ‘roots’. He loves ‘black on white’ renderings because it comes across as ageless, timeless, and crosses all racial, ethnic, and cultural boundaries. “It is like eternity,” he says. Dale find this style to be much cleaner, sharper, crisper, and ancient than color. “And it is not nearly as messy, smelly, complicated, and expensive, as liquid mediums”.

In 2011 Dale was honored to be awarded his ‘Signature Status’ ‘Associate of the Federation of Canadian Artists’ (AFCA). In 2014 Dale was honored to be awarded his ‘Master Pencil Artist Status’ (MPAS) with the Pencil Art Society.
