🎉 Big Congratulations to Our Own Gordon Franson! 🎉

We are absolutely thrilled to share some incredible news about one of our dedicated regular volunteers. Gordon Franson was recently honored with the prestigious 2026 Doug Johnson Award at the 63rd Annual Calgary White Hat Awards! 🤠✨
Gord’s journey with us began six years ago when he came to Pioneer Acres alongside the Grain Academy (back when it was located at the BMO Centre at Stampede Park). Since then, he has been a steady, invaluable presence and a familiar face to so many in our community.

Gord’s passion for preserving and celebrating Western Canadian history runs deep, and his impact spans across some of Calgary’s most prominent cultural institutions:

Pioneer Acres: A dedicated regular volunteer for the past 6 years.

Heritage Park: Over 20 years of service as both an employee and a passionate volunteer.

Calgary Stampede: More than a decade spent volunteering on the Historical Committee, helping preserve our rich agricultural roots—the very work that earned him this well-deserved White Hat Award!

Chinook Country Historical Society: Serving local heritage as a committed board member.

We are incredibly proud to have someone with Gord’s lifelong passion, knowledge, and dedication as part of the Pioneer Acres family.

🌱 Canada's Quietest Megaproject is Happening Right Now. 🇨🇦

Every spring, a massive, highly synchronized choreography takes over the Western Canadian Prairies. Farmers are moving:
🌾 53+ million bushels of seed wheat & 110+ million lbs of canola seed
🚛 4.5 million tonnes of fertilizer
⛽ Up to 150 million gallons of diesel fuel

At Pioneer Acres, we love looking at where we started to truly appreciate how far we've come. Fifty years ago, a farmer spent the entire day looking behind them at the equipment. Today, autonomous platforms and GPS systems allow the machinery to look after itself.

We've traded hoe drills for 120-foot air drills, and heavy soil-eroding tillage for sustainable direct seeding.

• When: Saturday, May 23 & Sunday, May 24, 2026
• Where: Pioneer Acres Museum
• Cost: $20 Entry for Pullers (Unlimited Tractors!)
• Bonus: FREE Dry Camping all weekend long!
🛠️ The Schedule
• Saturday, May 23 (Main Event): Registration at 9 AM | Pulls at 10 AM. Featuring 2 full pulls (Featherweight to Class 6), a new division for tractors up to 1965, and awards to follow!
• Sunday, May 24 (Fun Pull Day): A relaxed day for beginners, practice, and pressure-free fun pulls.

Do you have a passion for Alberta’s history and a love for rural heritage? Pioneer Acres is looking for two enthusiastic individuals to join our team in Irricana this season!

We are currently accepting applications for:
1️⃣ Curator (Full-Time, Permanent)
We are seeking a professional to lead our collections management, research, and exhibit development. If you have experience in museum studies and love storytelling through artifacts, we want to hear from you!

2️⃣ Museum Assistant (Full-Time, Temporary/Student)
Perfect for students! Spend your summer giving tours, cataloging history, and helping our visitors have an unforgettable experience. This role is supported by Canada Summer Jobs/Young Canada Works.

Today marks the start of our 2026 season! We are so excited to welcome you back to Pioneer Acres.

It’s the perfect weekend to scope out the grounds before our Spring Tractor Pull on May 23-24. Come see what’s new, visit the Gift Shop, and enjoy the wide-open spaces of our 50-acre site.

Are you ready to step back in time? The wait is almost over! In just 3 days, the gates at Pioneer Acres swing wide for the 2026 season. May 15th can’t come fast enough!!!

We’ve been busy polishing the chrome, tuning the engines, and getting the museum in tip-top shape for your arrival. Whether you're here for the massive tractors, the vintage trucks, or a stroll through the Crown School, there is something for every history buff and family adventurer.

From the roar of the steam engines to the quiet stories told in our exhibits, we can’t wait to share our passion for agricultural history with you once again.
