📍 Iqaluit

Are the dogs of Kalaallit Nunaat and Nunavut one and the same?

Come and find out what we've discovered about the Kalaallit Sled Dog through the Qimmeq Project, and help us learn from your stories and experiences with qimmiit.

Who are we?
The Qimmeq Project is an interdisciplinary partnership of archaeologists, anthropologists, biologists, historians, artists, educators, and Indigenous knowledge holders. Together, we explore how Arctic sled dogs have shaped human history, culture, and life across the North, combining genetics, archaeology, history, and community knowledge to tell their story.

As the project enters a new phase, we're looking beyond Kalaallit Nunaat to build connections with communities across the Arctic. We're especially interested in learning about the experiences, priorities, and perspectives of people in Nunavut, and how future research can best support and reflect local knowledge, interests, and concerns.

Whether you're a musher, Elder, hunter, dog owner, or simply interested in qimmiit and Inuit culture, come by for a coffee and a conversation. We'd love to hear your experiences, memories, and perspectives on the important role dogs have played and continue to play in Arctic life.
