We are thrilled to wrap up a record-breaking month of field trips at the Tashme Museum!

A huge thank you to the enthusiastic Grade 9 class from G.W. Graham Secondary from Chilliwack, BC for being our final group this month, and to every student and teacher who visited us this May.

It has been an incredibly inspiring and rewarding experience hosting you all in our newly expanded spaces!

The Tashme Museum team recognized the need for a significant expansion. A dedicated Tashme Research & Archive Centre would provide a secure, clean, and environmentally controlled space to properly store, preserve, and ultimately share these unique and historically significant items that once called Tashme home.

As one of three phased projects made possible by funding from the Japanese Canadian Legacies Society, the Tashme Museum team dedicated the last two years to designing, creating, and working extremely hard to complete this major project.

I am incredibly proud of our amazing museum team and all the tradespeople who made this vision a reality.

As May is Asian Heritage Month, we're spotlighting our three projects. Today, we're excited to highlight the second: the brand-new Tashme Research & Archive Centre (Phase 2).

We welcomed 24 Grade 5/6 students from Robertson Elementary School in Chilliwack, BC. And we were assisted by a very special museum helper today, my daughter, Raya.

On May 3rd, with over 200 guests in attendance, the Tashme Historical Society had the great honour and excitement of unveiling our latest and most exciting museum expansion to date.

Over the rest of May, we will be spotlighting each of the three projects. Today, we are excited to highlight the first: Tashme Museum Beautification Project (Phase 1)

Another great day at the Tashme Museum.

We welcomed our second field trip this month with 19 students from Agassiz Christian School, a split grade 4/5 class.

We're really enjoying sharing all the new areas of the museum with our visitors.

What a day...

We welcomed 50 Grade 4 and 5 students from Coquihalla Elementary from Hope, BC, today.

It wasn’t just our first field trip of the season, but the first school class to be held in the newly rehabilitated Tashme kindergarten schoolhouse in 80 years.

We also utilized the rehabilitated Tashme RCMP building, where students learned to fold numerous different origami patterns , another first for us.

Today was an experiment, utilizing three brand-new learning stations that the Tashme Museum Team developed over the last couple of weeks.

One of the students' favorites was what we call the ‘Tashme Museum Junior Archivist Lab.’

So far, the reports and reviews we've received have all been very inspiring and, most importantly, educational for all the students and teachers who participated.

It was a great day.

We are incredibly excited that tomorrow's field trip will mark the first school gathering in 80 years at the newly rehabilitated Tashme kindergarten schoolhouse, now lovingly known as the Howard Shimokura Tashme Resource Centre.
