For 125 years, the McAdam Railway Station has been a workplace, a meeting spot, a first stop and a last goodbye for generations of families.

We want to hear your Station story.

Did you work at the Station? Did your parents, grandparents or neighbours? Did you arrive here, leave from here, or meet someone special on the platform? If the Station is part of your family's story, we would love to hear it.

As part of our 125th anniversary, we are recording in-person video interviews with the people who know the Station best. Some stories will be shared as part of this anniversary project, and all of them help preserve McAdam's history for the future.

How to share yours:
Email a short note about your story to [email protected]
Tell us who you are, how you or your family are connected to the Station, and a little about your memory. Photos are welcome too.

If yours is selected, we will reach out to arrange an in-person video interview. We can't promise a call back to everyone, but every story matters to us.

Please share this with someone who has a Station story. Tag them below or send them this post. 🚂

This project is funded in part by the Government of New Brunswick, Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture, Archaeology and Heritage Branch.

Today is Canada's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, observed every year on September 30. It was established as a result of recommendations made by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (2008-2015) that studied the harm done by the residential school system that ran from 1831 to 1996 to the indigenous children who were forced to attend, their families, their communities, and the resulting generational impacts that are still experienced today. For more information about the commission go to https://nctr.ca/about/truth-and-reconciliation-commission-of-canada/ . September 30th is also known as Orange Shirt Day - Every Child Matters established in 2013 when many wear orange to honor the survivors and victims.

The TRC documented the truth of Survivors, their families, communities and anyone personally affected by the residential school experience.

And that’s a wrap on another incredible summer!

Our visitor centre officially closed for the season on Monday. A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by and made this summer so special. We already can’t wait to see you next year.

But heritage never truly stops! Even though our doors are closed, we are still working hard behind the scenes.

We are still offering our usual year-round heritage services throughout the fall, winter and spring.

Are you a member needing archive access? Reach out to us! We can easily be persuaded to open the doors for your research projects.

Send us a message or visit the link in our bio to book an appointment or inquire about our year-round services.

See you next summer!

This is an interesting heritage hike. Highly recommended!

Come join us at Tomlinson Lake on Saturday, October 3, from 12–6 PM for an afternoon of history, hiking, and exploration!

Walk the 2.8 km Hike to Freedom trail and discover the story of the freedom seekers who travelled through this area during the 1800s.

Throughout the afternoon, you can enjoy…

Historical exhibits presented by the New Brunswick Black History Society
Geocaching with CRAG — Capital Region Association of Geocachers
Historical interpretation by Kings Landing
Civil War encampment and musket demonstrations by the 5th New Hampshire Volunteers

We’re especially excited to welcome Kings Landing as a partner this year, with historical interpreters joining us to help bring the stories of the 1800s to life along the trail.

Bring your family, your walking shoes, and some water, and spend the afternoon exploring an important piece of New Brunswick history.

This is a pet friendly event. Bring your leashes.

Some descendants of early Cork area families are travelling to Harvey in early September and would like to to connect with local relatives. Surnames represented in this gathering include Connors, Crowley, Sullivan, Donovan, Chessie, Burgoyne, McDade, and Mazerolle dit St. Louis.
To help them out, Harvey Heritage is hosting a special Meet & Greet at the Harvey Heritage Visitor Centre at the Upper Village Mall. If you have ties to these families or related branches in the region, come on out to share photos, swap stories, and meet your distant cousins!
