How did Ontario teenage girls help win World War II?

During the war, Canadian farmers were left with no help to plant or harvest their crops because the men who had been employed on farms had enlisted for military service. So, in 1941 the government began the Farmerette Program. Teenage girls in high school were encouraged to “lend a hand” by working on farms and orchards to help in food production. It was difficult work and few had farming experience, but many returned for several summers. Local resident, Mary Loucks, was a young girl who volunteered.
Join us to hear her story on Thursday, October 22, at 10 am at the membership meeting at the South Frontenac Museum, 5595 Rd 38.
All are welcome.

Treasures in the Attic is a wrap for this year. The event was well attended and our local community came out with many interesting and intriguing artifacts. Thanks to our panelists for their expertise.
