The USS LST 325 Ship Memorial in Evansville, Indiana is now on Naval Museum Atlas.

They look after USS LST 325 , built in 1942 to drive onto a beach and open her bow so tanks could drive off. Twenty Shermans went below in two rows of ten, and because they all left through one opening, the crew sent them off on traffic lights.
She lay off Omaha Beach on 6 June 1944 and went in on the 8th.

The museum exists because of one voyage. By 2000 she was a rusting hulk in Crete after thirty-five years in the Greek navy. Twenty-nine volunteers went and brought her home, everyone aboard 65 or older, two months at sea and a hurricane on the way.

She is the only LST still operating in her wartime fit in US waters, and every autumn they take her up the rivers so more people can get aboard.

Her profile is on the Naval Museum Atlas now, with hours, tickets and where she actually is.

World of Warships celebrates its eleventh birthday.

Every ship in this video is real, and still there to visit.

Most never made it that far. Some sank. Others were scrapped because nobody found the money.
Enterprise, the most decorated ship in the US Navy, went for scrap in 1958 for want of two million dollars.

Those ships have no museum. But it is good that they have a place in a beautiful game, where you take them out yourself and they are still afloat, still moving the way they were built to move.

A photograph preserves how a ship looked. This game preserves what she did. A rather wonderful thing to be able to say about a video game.

Happy eleventh birthday, World of Warships !

USS Midway in numbers, on the day she joined the fleet in 1945.

295 metres, about 60,000 tons, 212,000 horsepower and 33 knots. An armored flight deck of 89 mm and a 193 mm belt, at a time when no American carrier had ever been protected so well. Room for 136 aircraft. She was commissioned on 10 September 1945, eight days after the war she was designed for had ended, and served 47 years. In World of Warships she is a Tier X carrier in her 1945 state. In real life she is a museum in San Diego USS Midway Museum

This is HMCS Haida as she looks in World of Warships . The real one is moored at Pier 9 in Hamilton, and on Sunday she turns 83.

Twenty-seven Tribal-class destroyers were built for the British, Canadian and Australian navies. Thirteen were sunk during the war, the other thirteen were scrapped afterwards, and she is the one that got kept. She helped sink 14 enemy vessels, more than any other Canadian warship.

Parks Canada is marking her birthday this Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 to 17:00. Her 4 inch guns fire at 11:50 and again at 13:50 both days, and admission is free until 7 September under the Canada Strong Pass.

Seven bombs fell close enough to shake the hull. Not one of them hit.

24 August 1942, off Guadalcanal. USS North Carolina was screening the carrier Enterprise when roughly 80 Japanese aircraft came in. It was her first real fight of the war. Her gunners threw up a wall of fire so dense that the crew claimed between 7 and 14 aircraft. She came through undamaged. Japan called off the run to reinforce Guadalcanal.

Eighty-four years later she is still afloat in Wilmington, North Carolina, and you can stand on the deck where those guns were.
