Paul Elia Gallery Paul Elia digitally integrates photography and illustration to create engaging panoramic urban street scapes.
(1)

These digitally illustrated prints depict post-industrial cityscapes, including Hamilton, Toronto, Brantford, and Windsor. Entire city blocks (or strips) are recreated, often highlighting the surreal contrast between the imposing industrial shells from a manufacturing history and the residential development around it. The limited edition archival giclée prints are up to 8ft. long, allowing the viewer to literally walk down the block. Each piece is composed of a string of photographs that are digitally stitched together. The collected images provide a template that is digitally painted or “rotoscoped” for a stark illustration of a cohesive scene.

I have some BIG NEWS to share! We have sold our building on Cannon and will be moving out of Hamilton to the beautiful little town of Port Hope!!! After almost 20 years of creating art in Hamilton, we felt it was time to make a big change!!!

I will miss Hamilton dearly but I will still be around all the time. And don’t worry, my prints will still be available to order from my website and pick up at Crown and Press Gallery on Ottawa street.

Lots more exciting news to come! Stay tuned!

🖼 Arcana: A Tattoo Tarot Show @ Paul Elia Gallery, Hamilton 🖼

The Paul Elia Gallery presents an exhibition of contemporary Tarot interpretations by a selection of invited Canadian tattoo artists. With varied and elaborate interpretations, 38 of Ontario’s finest tattooers produced artworks representing all 22 major arcana and the 4 court cards of each suit (16 minor cards) for a total of 38 original pieces.

Evolving from a 15th century card game, The Tarot has become an iconic esoteric instrument. 18th Century French occultists assigned meaning to each card with a distinct symbolism, still used today for amusement and divination.

Arcana is on view at Paul Elia Gallery April 5-28, 2024.

Opening Reception:
The reception includes food catered by Power Pizza, live Tarot readings, and more.
