Discover the work of some of Canada's most renowned artists as they explore rich and varied summer landscapes.

On view now at the Art Gallery of Guelph, Windfall Light takes its title from a phrase in Dylan Thomas' poem Fern Hill. The words evoke dappled golds, luminous greens, deepening warmth, and undulating fields of a landscape suspended in time. Like the poem, this exhibition does not describe summer directly so much as linger within its thresholds—in lengthening shadows, burgeoning birds and blossoms, and the acute awareness of a season always already beginning to recede.

Drawing together contemporary works alongside selections from the Art Gallery of Guelph's collection including those by Kathleen Daly, Clarence Gagnon, Evan Macdonald, Doris McCarthy, George Pepper, Takao Tanabe, Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven, and many others, Windfall Light explores this season that sees "the sun born over and over"—as Thomas writes—where abundance and loss exist in delicate balance.

See the full list of artists in the slides that follow!

, in 1898, Canadian artist and Group of Seven member A.J. (Alfred Joseph) Casson was born.

Casson is celebrated for his crisp, quiet depictions of Ontario villages and landscapes. His work evokes a sense of stillness and serenity through carefully balanced compositions and a refined use of colour and form.

Today, we remember A.J. Casson through a selection of works from the AGG collection — the first of which will be featured in upcoming exhibition Windfall Light 🌲

In this exhibition, enlarged images documenting overlapping photo album sleeves filled with cut-outs from the artist's collection start to speak to one another.

Visit the AGG and check out her exhibition which marks the culmination of two years of work in the University of Guelph’s Master of Fine Arts program.

The Art Gallery of Guelph’s annual exhibitions of graduating MFA students are presented in partnership with the School of Fine Art and Music at the University of Guelph.
