How's your memory? Bring your best guesses for the numbers on the attached sheet to the Revellers this weekend. The Museum & Archives is setting up some great displays. We have scrapbooks, class photos, info on the Great Walk, the Eagletree Airport, an Assassination Attempt, Asian Migrants and so much more! It wasn't all logging and strikes 😉

A quick thank you to 'Chris' and Gaylin Chavarie for sending us these two items. The first is an aerial photo of the Beach Camp before any work was done along the foreshore. The second is a hockey patch that belonged to Gaylin' brother Pat. He sadly, died of leukaemia before getting a change to wear the patch. Thank you both for thinking of us and sharing your memories with the community.

The Archives has its first big ask! Attached are ‘maps’ of our various business districts. We are looking for all of the businesses that have occupied these spaces over the years. Lots/rooms have all been numbered. If the business occupied two or more spaces, or only half the space, just indicate that. Its hard to account for everything.

To start with, and I can’t stress this enough, please do not ‘guess’, we need verifiable info or first hand knowledge. I understand some of us struggle to remember things well these days (I include myself in there) so if you honestly remember something but are vague about some details, give it your best shot and we’ll see what it matches up with.

Did you work there? Did you own a business? Do you have any photos or memorabilia? Please msg the Archive with any info you have.

A few nuggets for our newer residents and a nice little flashback for the rest. The village of Tsaxana opened in 1996, allowing Mowachaht Muchalaht First Nation members to move up from A'haminiquus, their village near the dock, and away from the toxic atmosphere produced by the kraft mill. The other two stories are from April 2000. In the pool picture our current mayor, Michael Lott, is congratulating long time Mayor Anne Fiddick for completing a 1500km swim. Yes, the one the pool is named after!

It’s been 60 years since the community officially began, that’s a lot of folks to come back and help us celebrate! Newbies and visitors are more than welcome too 😉 we are a very friendly bunch ❤

A huge thank you to the Ridge Pub and this team of misfits who won trivia night last Friday and donated half their winnings to the Museum & Archives! We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the birthday celebrations this summer ❤️ 60 years! That sure flew by 🥳

We are all looking forward to the Village Birthday this summer, especially those of us at the Archives who, thanks to the Revellers, will have an amazing space to display some of our holdings. There is never enough time, or volunteers (wink, wink) but we promise there will be more than just the standard 'how Gold River started' stuff. It is especially difficult to sort newspapers without constantly stopping to read things, but it sometimes results in little gems like these: How the Great Walk really got started.
