Huron County Museum Welcome to the official Huron County Museum & Historic Gaol page. Temporary exhibits cover a wide spectrum of subjects of special interest.

Huron County Museum is a first class community museum offering visitors modern exhibition galleries and professional support spaces in a climate controlled environment. Permanent exhibits depict the early settlement and development of Huron County. The History Hall with store fronts and a locomotive allows you to stroll back in time. Young people enjoy turning the handles that bring the handmade m

odels created by Museum Founder Joseph Herbert Neill to life. An extensive Military Gallery, Furniture Gallery and Agricultural Displays interest and fascinate the visitor. The Huron Historic Gaol is a unique and imposing octagonal building which served as the County Jail from its first prisioner in 1841 until 1972 when all inmates were transferred to regional facilities. The Gaol is a designated National Historic Site.

There's still time to register for this month's Dads/Male Caregivers and Kids Night at the Museum!

Calling all dads and male caregivers: Join us for our monthly Night at the Museum just for you and your kids!

On Thursday, May 28 from 6:00-7:00 PM at the Huron County Museum, we'll be learning all about native plants and why they're so important for pollinators. 🐝

UPDATE: The work on the front entrance continues and we ask all visitors over the weekend to use the Bruce Street entrance.

Yes! We are open at the Huron County Museum while our front walkway undergoes construction for improved accessibility!

While access to the main entrance from North Street is closed, please use the ramp around the corner on Bruce Street when visiting. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the week, but please watch for updates.

The film follows a group of spirited senior citizens as they embark on an extraordinary adventure far outside their comfort zones: creating a horror film. We are also pleased to welcome filmmaker Sean Cisterna who will discuss the film and the process of working with a film crew of senior citizens learning on the job.
