Canada Day in Gladstone with Ed & Rhea. Ed and Rhea are a father-daughter duo from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. They have been gaining a lot of attention in the Manitoba music scene as they capture audiences with their unique acoustic style. Recently, they have opened for Juno Award winner George Canyon, and Rhea claimed 1st place in the Manitoba Country Voice competition. While performing at a variety of venues and festivals such as Dauphin’s Countryfest, they have wowed the critics with their poetic blend of classic and contemporary.
Ed & Rhea will perform at the Gladstone Museum at 7:00 p.m. as part of Canada Day 2026. Special thanks to Kerry McClennan and Jeff Mowat for their help with this.

Orders given in Gladstone, MB - mid 1980s. Photo taken by Allan Peden, who worked for CN 1951-1960, and shared by his son Hugh Peden.

The caption to the photo was as follows "‘Yellow Board’ at Gladstone. Operator hoops up a 19Y (non restricting) order to the hoghead of an eastbound freight as he passes through. This shot was taken in the mid-1980’s, long after all steam power had succumbed to the cutter’s torch and about twenty-five years after I had left the employment of the C.N.R. I was just passing through Gladstone myself when this freight happened by. What a flood of memories this scene brought back."

CN 5290 was a GMD SD40-2(W) built in 1975 that had a wide nose comfort cab.

Gladstone, MB is at mileage 92.2 of the Gladstone Subdivision that goes from Winnipeg at mileage 0.0 to Dauphin at mileage 177.5. At Dauphin it changes to the Togo Subdivision which continues to be used by both freight and VIA Rail.
