Another favourite photo on East Main St. Esterhazy is this place built as the Esterhazy Hotel, then known as Lipinski Hall, then the Banow Block. It was reinvented to include retail spaces, pool room, as well as the Colony Cafe, with rooms to rent upstairs. It was lost to fire in 1960.

Well this is an interesting little nugget of information. There was a request to rezone to put up a DAIRY QUEEN in Esterhazy on Sumner St in 1967! It was not approved, and had it been it would have been in competition with the Dairyville which opened in 1964. 🍦

After a $60M commitment by IMC to develop a second potash mine near Esterhazy, their efforts paid off as they hit potash on January 7, 1967 at K2. There was very little fanfare noted with this achievement as there was in 1962 when they reached the potash level at K1.
