FRAMS - Friends of Royal Alberta Museum Society The Friends of Royal Alberta Museum Society (FRAMS) was established in 1982. FRAMS is comprised of a volunteer board of directors and general members.

The Friends of Royal Alberta Museum Society (FRAMS) is a registered charity and not-for-profit membership organization that promotes and supports the Royal Alberta Museum, one of Canada’s leading heritage institutions. FRAMS is involved in fundraising and friend-raising, acquiring artefacts to expand the museum’s collections, and providing a community in which all Albertans may engage with their m

useum. Friends of Royal Alberta Museum Society’s primary role is to serve as a dynamic link between the museum and the community through the following programs:

Indigenous Student Museum Internship Program (ISMI)
Dining with Friends
Museum After Dark
Discovery Fund

FRAMS has assisted the Royal Alberta Museum in procuring historical, cultural and scientific artifacts of significance to Alberta, to Canada and to the world. The Friends of Royal Alberta Museum Society (FRAMS) supported the following museum acquisitions:

Applications for the 2026 Indigenous Student Museum Internship (ISMI) are now open.

This 16-week, paid summer internship invites First Nations, Inuit and Métis post-secondary students to gain hands-on experience at the Royal Alberta Museum, exploring areas such as archaeology, conservation, education, communications, Indigenous studies, natural sciences and more.

Whether you’re curious about museum work or looking to deepen your academic interests through real-world experience, ISMI offers a supportive and inspiring environment to learn and grow.

Program runs: May–August 2026
Application deadline: March 10, 2026

Have you visited the new Stories of Us collection at the RAM? Last night a few FRAMS board members checked it out and finally got to see Glenna Cardinal’s Dik’aaz (It is red) shawl in person. We highly recommend going to have a look for yourself. This is one of the more than 10,000 items FRAMS has purchased for the Royal Alberta Museum over the past 40 years.

Make sure you head to the to check out their newest exhibit Connections.

Connections: Bringing Art and Neuroscience Together is a community-curated art exhibition developed by the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute (NMHI) at the University of Alberta. The exhibition is an art show featuring about 70 objects. The objects include 2D artworks, some 3D artwork, and specimens imaged with scientific equipment.
