Good Afternoon, Thoughtful Thursday Challenge Friends,

Such great stories of kindness and generosity. Oh yes. Kindness surely is a precursor to love, joy, peace. The wonderful part about kindness, too, is it is available to everyone to give. It costs nothing. But it sure can make a person feel like a million bucks. Not to mention, it can change the course of a person's life.

Anyone remember Paul Harvey and "The Rest of the Story...?" I loved that guy. Here is a story about how a simple act of kindness changed the course of someone's life, to the betterment of many!

Thanks, everyone, for coming back and chiming in! So good to hear from you all again.

Greetings Thoughtful Thursday Challenge Friends.

It’s been a while, and it’s good to be back. I hope summer has been kind to you and that you feel refreshed and ready for a new season.

But wait!

Summer isn’t quite over. Astronomical summer ends on September 21, so that means we have a whopping (almost) three weeks left to enjoy a few more lazy hazy days of the season.

I’ve missed our conversations, so am anxious for us to get chatting again!

Kindness.

Have you heard of National Kindness Day? Here’s a little synopsis that I snitched off Google:

“World Kindness Day 2026 is celebrated globally on Friday, November 13, 2026. This annual international event encourages individuals to look past political, religious, and cultural boundaries and focus on the positive power of compassion and everyday good deeds.”

Can you even imagine what our world would look like if we did this every day?

Let’s talk. (Do you remember how this works?)
1. What does “kindness” mean to you?
2. What kindness have you done (shown) recently toward someone?
3. Have you been on the receiving end of a kindness recently? Care to share?

Here’s a reminder:
a. Respond to the questions above in the comments section below
b. Deadline to enter is 4 pm today (September 3, 2026)
c. One entry per week.
d. Draw will be made on Thursday, (September 24, 2026)
*****************************

It's just that easy. Your name will be entered on our Wheel of Names, and you will have a chance to win a $75 Gift Certificate from the Right Spot Restaurant in Alma.

Just in case you thought there wasn't much happening in Minto, think again.

Mark your calendar—and maybe put a sticky note on the fridge, just to be safe!

The Seniors' Centre for Excellence (fourth) annual Health and Wellness Fair will take place on October 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the PMD Arena in Mapleton.

Hosted by the Seniors' Centre for Excellence, this grand day promises plenty to do, see, learn, and enjoy.

• Explore more than 35 exhibitors from community agencies and vendors offering information, resources, friendly conversation, and plenty to learn.
• Take part in two free workshops designed to support health, wellness, and everyday living.
• Enjoy complimentary snacks throughout the day, because learning is easier when there is something tasty nearby.
• Check out door prizes, freebies, and other little surprises—proof that good things really can come in reusable carrier bags.
• Connect with community organizations, neighbours, and maybe even a few familiar faces.

Come for the information, stay for the inspiration—and leave with useful resources, new connections, new knowledge, possibly a bag of goodies, and maybe even a door prize.

Free Admission.
No registration required.
Just drop in and delight in the day!

You’re not busy, right?
Good!

Then get ready for a toe-tapping, knee-slappin’ good time at the Seniors' Centre for Excellence Harriston Dining Program, taking place at the Harriston United Church, on Wednesday, September 9.

We sure would love to have you join us for a deliciously-musical afternoon where we promise to fill you to an excellence sufficiency at the table followed by a side order of “the Hayward’s” Musical magic!

Come sit and listen. Or maybe, if you like, play the spoons, clap along, or how about dancing a little jig around the room to a few rousing fiddle tunes. That’ll be a good way to burn off some of those calories from the most deeee-licious dinner being cooked up ‘specially for you!

We need to know soon if you can make it, so maybe drop what you are doing, mosey on over to your communication device and tell us you wouldn’t miss it for anything, including a nap!

519-638-1000 or [email protected].
P.S. You can have that nap later, following all the fun happening at the SCE Harriston dining Program is over! You’ll need it.

If you like a bit of intrigue, a dash of nostalgia, a hint of the 'way we were,' then you need to mosey on over to the Harriston Carnegie Library third floor and check out the Harriston Historical Society Nostalgia Display.

What a time we had. A group of our fabulous SCE folk decided on the spur of the moment, to head out en masse and see what, proprietor and HHS member, Willa Wick, had in store for us.

From hats to hatchets; from old menus to school daze, and a leather strap tossed in for good measure and so much more. And this was no ordinary quick stroll around four rooms of history and curiosities.

Willa cleverly created a 'treasure hunt' style of questions so patrons could dig deep (not to mention have a chance to win a chunk of cash!)

Our SCE piece de resistance, was heading to the local Timmies to debrief and laugh out loud.

Thanks everyone, for being fabulous 'on the spur of the moment' pals and to Willa, you are the best! Thanks for hosting us and the great morning out!

P.S. The display is on until August 22nd, and we double dog dare you to take a friend - or an entire group and head on over to the Harriston Carnegie Library 3rd floor, and be amazed.

Hours: Tuesday 1 pm – 4:30 pm
Friday 1 pm – 3 pm
Saturday 11 am – 1 pm

Games People Play.

Just so you know, we aren’t talking about the kind of mind games people play. There’ll be no manipulation, emotional power plays, or hidden motives on the agenda at the Clifford Dining Program on Wednesday August 26th.

Instead, Serena Lowry, our friend and presenter from the Wellington County Museum and Archives (WCMA) will be sharing all about some actual, factual games that people have played in the past; games that were popular throughout the eras in the county; from sports games to card games. And we’ll hear about some famous athletes from Wellington County, too. Anyone heard of the Clifford Swing skirts?

Please consider this your personal invitation to Game Day.
The food will be fabulous, including some scrumptious sandwiches of your choice, made on homemade oatmeal bread, and all the fixings, not to mention, the mile high lemon meringue pie or cherry pie delight.

Get ready to have some ‘fun and games’ with Serena as head coach and the picnic pair in the Kitchen Kiosk!

Oh...and if you want to bring along a 'vintage' game, we're doing show and tell!

Rah! Rah! Rah!
Call today to book your spot in the dugout. 519-638-1000; [email protected]
Hope to see you in the lineup!

Grief.
It's not like we can avoid it at some point in our lives. Open conversation is essential for processing the intense physical and emotional shockwaves of grief and loss.

Hospice Wellington is all about walking alongside individuals as they traverse through some of life's most difficult journeys.

And they can help in tangible ways. Check out some of the thoughtful programs and supports that they offer. Then get in touch to access whatever will help as you try to navigate through the valleys and challenges.
