Help Us Bring the D***o Discovery Centre to Life!

The D***o Discovery Centre is preparing to welcome visitors from around the world, and we're looking for a passionate, organized, and energetic individual to join our team as a:

🏛️ Museum Launch Coordinator/Manager
(replacing the previously posted role)

📍 D***o, Newfoundland & Labrador
⏳ 12-Week Term Position
🕒 35 Hours Per Week
📅 Start Date: ASAP

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in launching one of Newfoundland's newest visitor attractions while helping tell the stories, history, and culture that make our community so special.

What You'll Be Doing:

✨ Helping prepare the museum for opening day
✨ Coordinating gift shop setup and merchandising
✨ Supporting marketing, social media, and visitor communications
✨ Assisting with events and community engagement activities
✨ Developing operational procedures and visitor experience standards
✨ Helping ensure everything is ready to welcome our first guests

We'd Love to Hear From You If You Have:

✔️ Strong organizational and communication skills
✔️ Experience in tourism, hospitality, retail, events, museums, or a related field
✔️ The ability to manage multiple projects and work independently
✔️ A passion for creating memorable visitor experiences

There are a few theories — and let’s just say… no one’s 100% sure 😉

From early explorers sailing into Trinity Bay to stories passed down over generations, the name D***o has a history that’s just as interesting as the place itself.

👉 Was it an old word for “still waters”?
👉 A twist on a European term?
👉 Or something else entirely?

Well… you’ll have to come see for yourself 😄

Spend your days meeting visitors from all over, sharing local stories, and being part of something right here in the heart of D***o.

We’re hiring a Heritage Interpreter at the D***o Discovery Centre — someone who’s friendly, reliable, and enjoys chatting with people (you’ll be doing plenty of that 😄).

👉 If you’ve got a bit of personality and don’t mind telling a story or two, you’ll fit right in.

🛒 Come for the essentials… stay for the yarns

Imagine this…

You heads into the local store — not for bread (every house made their own 😉) — but for the real necessities… a bit of yeast and sugar, maybe some tea… and of course, a few sweets if you were lucky 😄

Next thing you knows, you’re after staying an hour, caught up on all the news, and leaving with more than you planned anyway.

That was life in D***o.

At one time, there were over 20 general stores in the community — not just shops, but the heart of it all. A place for supplies, stories, and a good laugh or two.
