The Ukrainian Heritage Village at Selo Ukraina will take you back to the period of 1896-1925, a time when immigrants from Ukraine settled in northwestern Manitoba to pioneer the land. Based primarily on the agricultural lifestyles of these pioneers, this site depicts a crossroads settlement where it is clear to see not only the hardships they faced in Canada, but also the vibrant culture from the
"Old Country" that they incorporated into their lives and village. The Village is situated along Edwards Creek and offers many furnished buildings and farm equipment to enjoy, such as a Ukrainian Orthodox Church, a one-room country school house, a shoe repair shop, and family homes from the early 20th century. The buildings and artifacts have either been restored or reconstructed, and the preservation of the displays gives a realistic view of how the first Ukrainian settlers lived. Visitors can see the pioneers working in the garden, carrying water from the creek, or a farmer fixing a piece of his equipment. Thousands of visitors come to view and interact with the pioneers working in the village, taste the homemade bread fresh from the "peach", or clay oven, and learn about a time that once was. Not only is this educational, with activities planned for the children, the site promises to be fun for the whole family. We are available for bookings of both small and large group tours and events. There is immense space for bus and large vehicle parking. These grounds are perfect for picnics and other activities. The Ukrainian Heritage Village can also be combined with other facilities on the Selo Ukraina site, including Memorial Park of the Ukrainian soldier, the Selo Hall, and outdoor amphitheatre.
