You're invited!

Join us on April 24th at 7pm at The Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia to celebrate the official launch of the Dr. Ligoure Project!

This project showcases the life and legacy of Dr. Clement Courtenay Ligoure, Halifax's first Black physician through a podcast series, free learning resources on NovaMuse.ca, an upcoming digital Cultural Competency Symposium, and a series of portable pop-up banners.

The learning resources are already available online in both English and French, but we'll be unveiling our banners and podcast episodes for the first time on April 24 so you don't want to miss this event!

This event is free and open to the public.

The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre and the Black Cultural Centre are excited to announce the upcoming public launch of the African Nova Scotian Seafaring Project! For over 400 years, people of African descent have lived in Nova Scotia and have been involved in the marine industry in countless ways. Despite this ongoing presence, the experiences and contributions of African Nova Scotian seafarers and their communities have remained absent from most historical accounts of the industry and marine culture. The African Nova Scotian Seafaring project is a collaborative relationship between our three museums formed to elevate the stories of African Nova Scotians and their longstanding connections to the sea. This spring, we are launching a travelling exhibition and series of events to shed light on this important history. Stay tuned for more information, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have a story to share.
