It was facilitated by Jacquey Ryan with guest panelists John Brooks; Mary Snow (great-great-great granddaughter of Catherine Snow; Jeff Webb and author Nellie Strowbridge.

Traditional Wood Window Restoration Workshop

🪟 PRESERVE THE PAST: Traditional Wood Window Restoration Workshop 🪟
Join heritage restoration specialist John Duchow for a one-day, hands-on workshop at the Cupids Legacy Centre, where you’ll learn traditional techniques for caring for and preserving wood windows found in Newfoundland and Labrador’s historic buildings.

🔨 What you’ll learn:
• Window maintenance, materials & treatments
• Glazing and re-glazing
• Wood rot repair
• Proper preparation and painting techniques
• Practical restoration skills you can use on your own heritage windows
Participants are welcome to bring a traditional wood window to work on, although this is not required. John will also have a couple of windows available for participants to work on.

🦺 Important PPE Information:
Participants must bring their own safety glasses, work gloves (tight-fitting gloves are recommended for better dexterity), and a mask or respirator if possible.
Most paint stripping will be done using a steamer, which is safe to be around without a mask. John will also demonstrate the use of a heat gun outdoors. Anyone operating the heat gun must use a respirator. If participants do not have masks, the heat-gun portion will be demonstration-only.

🧰 All other tools and materials will be provided.

🥪 Lunch:
Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch. The café at the Cupids Legacy Centre will also be open for those who wish to purchase lunch or refreshments during the workshop.

Join us on the 29th & 30th of August for the 2026 Water Witch Annual Lecture, THE CATHERINE SNOW STORY (the last woman hanged in Newfoundland). A fascinating two-event weekend awaits exploring one of Newfoundland's most compelling historical stories.

The first event will take place on Saturday, August 29 at 6:00 pm at the Cupids Legacy Centre. Following a delicious three-course dinner, there will be special guest speakers, including Mary Snow, the great-great-great-granddaughter of Catherine & John Snow.
