Federal 2025 announcement to increase Canada's defence budget by over $9 billion, raising spending to 2 percent of GDP ahead of schedule, signals a historic investment in national security and the defence industry.

This surge in funding will support enhanced military capabilities and expand partnerships with Canadian defence companies, creating thousands of high-tech federal jobs.

Shifting some of these defence-related federal jobs closer to home in Orléans would reduce long commutes for local residents, more time with loved ones and foster economic growth in the community.

Canada's economy grew by 0.2% in July.

Marking the first increase in four months, largely due to a recovery in goods-producing industries. Statistics Canada reported that mining and quarrying activity rose by 2.6%, with oil and gas extraction increasing by 0.9%, while manufacturing, transportation, and warehousing also improved.

However, an initial estimate for August GDP indicated a flat growth, attributed to gains in wholesale and retail trade being offset by declines in other sectors.

he Bank of Canada anticipates slight economic growth after the second-quarter contraction, projecting a 1% increase for the second half of 2025. Economists expect third-quarter growth to be below 1%, indicative of a slow recovery.
