Peter Dušek Gallery Canadian Minimalist and Abstract Art

Peter Dušek is an award-winning artist who uses photography to explore visual art as a universal language to evoke emotion using colour, abstraction of landscape elements, and a dash of surrealism. With the simplicity and cutting power of a haiku poem, each of his toned photographs is a visual expression that many people say recalls memories of their past. Seeking the perfect balance between too m

uch and too little, his signature minimalist design goal is “as little as possible, as much as necessary”. Peter’s works, whether an intimate 8 inches wide or a powerful 108 inches wide, are held in the collections of large and small corporations, in their lobbies, boardrooms and showrooms, as well as gracing the walls of private collectors’ homes throughout North America.

Join us and start your Creemore Arts Fest weekend at the Peter Dušek Gallery this Friday, October 3, from 5 to 7pm, for the opening reception of Jamila Monahan’s “A Study of Losses”, set to the backdrop of Peter Dušek’s prints from his series, “Serenity” and “Free and Easy Wandering”. Jamila’s contemporary ceramics and basketry explore the natural world through a balance of form, function, and minimalist aesthetics. By merging traditional ceramics and contemporary basketry, she creates vessels that are both functional and contemplative — works that celebrate nature’s beauty and complexity. It is a perfect match to Peter’s minimalist photographs which reduce our world to its simplest components, creating a feeling of space and serenity.

My photograph, “Starstruck”, is featured on the cover photo of the fall issue of In The Hills magazine in connection with my exhibition, “Field Work”, at the Museum of Dufferin. The magazine editor titled her Editor’s Letter, “WONDERSTRUCK” to reflect my“Starstruck” and wrote:

WONDERSTRUCK

“Finally, there is the cover of this issue: one of Peter Dušek’s fine-art photographs, mentioned in Emily Dickson’s survey of the fall art scene. Dušek’s piece is a stark, unsentimental – modern, even – rendering of a familiar touchstone in these hills: weathered barns and outbuildings. The title of the piece – “Starstruck” – is a play on the white star at the peak of each roof but also handily describes the feeling of gazing at a routine sight through a new lens.”

Come see Peter’s exhibition, “Field Work” at the , on now til January 30, 2026.

Join me for the opening reception of “Field Work” at the today from 1 - 3pm.

“Field Work” captures the quiet poetry and essence of rural architecture — barns, silos,
and country buildings — through a series of photographs that reimagine these
structures as part of a broader dialogue with the land and sky they occupy.

I’m excited to have been invited for a second time to exhibit as a guest of the Korean Artist Society of Canada (KASC). This exhibition, “Road to Courage”, is at the Joseph D. Carrier Gallery in Toronto. Everyone is invited to the opening reception tonight from 6 to 8pm — I hope to see you there! I have seen all the artwork in the show and it is worth seeing. The show will stay up until July 20th.

My piece in the show is “Water Music 3”, 54 x 36 inches, edition 1 of 3. Other sizes are 72 x 48” and 88x 58.5”.

A word from KASC:

We warmly invite you to the KASC Annual Exhibition, where the vibrant spirit and vitality of a Canadian summer are captured and transformed into art.
This year’s exhibition, Road to Courage, explores the theme of “a path connected by courage.” In a world shaped by scientific advancement, social upheaval, and the intersecting forces of possibility and uncertainty, the works presented confront feelings of isolation and helplessness—and from within them, cultivate the resilience to move forward.

In today’s rapidly shifting reality—like riding a time machine—this exhibition seeks to steady our hearts and offer one another small but steadfast seeds of courage, thoughtfully planted through each piece.

What makes this exhibition especially meaningful is our first collaboration with members of the Ontario Society of Artists, a collective that has led Canada’s art scene for generations. We believe this special partnership, enriched by cultural diversity and vibrant creativity, will illuminate the unique artistic potential of each organization and open new paths for collective growth.

• Date: July 8 - 20, 2025

Shibumi (渋み) is a Japanese aesthetic concept embodying subtle elegance, refined simplicity, and understated beauty. It’s about finding profound depth in minimalism, where less is more, and every element serves a purpose without excess. Think of a perfectly arranged tea ceremony or a serene Zen garden—shibumi captures that quiet sophistication, balancing natural authenticity with intentional restraint. It’s not flashy, but its nuanced charm leaves a lasting impression, inviting you to appreciate the beauty in life’s understated moments.
