Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre We are an active community-based working not-for-profit maritime museum. It's all here in the quaint seaside village of Cowichan Bay, British Columbia.

From a condemned fuel loading dock to a museum, the pier now houses "Galleries" rich in maritime history. With a reputation for excellence, the Maritime Centre offers hands on courses in traditional boat building techniques and restoration. Skillfully hand-crafted models of historic ships are housed in the museum at the end of the pier. Activities are for any age, sea-farer or land-lubber alike. Giving the gift of skills that last a lifetime!
We want to send a big thank you to The ReUse People of Canada for the donation of wood that was used to to build with our Junior Captains this summer.

This generous donation gave close to 100 children the opportunity to work in the workshop using tools, sanding, drilling, hammering and more along with gaining confidence and excitement around working with wood.

We are so grateful for this donation of materials and encourage you all to check out the great work the ReUse people do!

Calling all Halloween lovers! Carve your most creative/creepy/cute/unique pumpkin and drop it off to take part in our Pumpkin Carving contest!

We are hosting a Pumpkin Carving Contest this October with some great prizes sponsored by Beautiful Smiles Denture Clinic

Drop off your carved pumpkin to us at the Maritime Centre on Oct 29/30 to enter the contest, Carved pumpkins will line the pier during our Fear-On-The-Pier events Oct 30/31 and attendees will get to view the pumpkins and vote for their favorite!

Make sure you get your Fear-on-the-Pier tickets to view all the pumpkins and vote for your favorite! It is going to be a spooky fun event full of all sorts of Halloween activities and you won't want to miss it!

Nautical Speaker Event! Join Kaci November 15th at 1:30 for a cozy afternoon in our library to hear about her journey to finding PAX! We are so excited to have Kaci share stories from her book along with photos and history!

Author, circumnavigator, and former Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival director, Kaci Cronkhite, knew better than to buy a wooden boat. But, in 2007, when the curvaceous 1936 Danish spidsgatter PAX arrived in a for-sale email from Vancouver Island, she was smitten. What followed was a 7 year international search to find PAX's prior owners, to solve the mystery of her history, and along the way to connect generations, finding peace.

Construction update: There’s a sinkhole?! Not anymore!
We knew this project would have some unforeseens as no one had seen beneath the deck in many years but we weren’t expecting significant corrosion under the building. Upon removal of our wooden deck we discovered that a part of the foundation of our building had corroded.
Before moving onto the deck we of course needed this addressed and remedied, that exactly what happened today! The Cowichan Concrete team along with Myles and George made a plan and EXECUTED!
The corrosion was fixed by filling it in with concrete and now we can move onto rebuilding the deck!
