๐˜“๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ opens at The Gallery at Evergreen Arts from June 6, featuring artworks from Jordan Bennett, Eric Allan Cameron, Eugene Isaac, Cindy Mochizuki, Carley Mullally, and Couzyn van Heuvelen.

Featured in this exhibition is Jordan Bennettโ€™s installation ๐˜๐˜ค๐˜ฆ ๐˜๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ฉ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ (2014) in which the artist recreates the experience of fishing for an urban audience. Weโ€™re closed for installation of our next exhibition ๐˜“๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ, featuring the work of Jordan Bennett, Eric Allan Cameron, Eugene Isaac, Cindy Mochizuki, Carley Mullally and Couzyn van Heuvelen.

From subsistence to livelihood, from sport to ritual, fishing links people from coast to coast to coast. This thematic group exhibition includes work by Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists across Canada with ties to the Pacific, Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, and the freshwater bodies that flow between. Together the artists explore the complex social and cultural significance of the ancient yet everyday activity of fishing.

๐˜“๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ will be on view at The Gallery at Evergreen Arts from June 6 to August 23, 2026.

The gallery will re-open on Saturday, June 6, at 12:00 p.m. Bring a friend, spend time with the work, and let yourself be drawn in.

This is the final weekend to view Zalamea's exhibition.

"I really think about photography as a mode of encounter. For me, this project, especially is about returning to my parents homeland, to [my] heritage, and to the Philippines. And I didn't quite know how to approach that, as a Canadian born Filipino. It was this idea of returnโ€”but what am I returning to, exactly? And so for me, as an artist, it makes sense for me to do that through the medium of photography." โ€”Karen Zalamea

These marble steps represent an archive of how members of Zalamea's family interacted with their immediate surroundings, showcasing how the family home, and by extension, any surface, can act as a archive of memory and identity.

Through this visual dialogue, Zalamea attempts to find a connection between her life in Canada and her ancestral home in the Philippines.

"in my mother's voice
mumbling
the language of ancestors"

This past weekend we celebrated the mothers in our lives. Their love connects across time, distance and generations.

Thank you to the visitor who left this found word poem on our "Poetic Word Weaving" wall with text selected from the work of Filipino poets.
