Crowsnest Museum

The Livingstone Chert Quarry was utilized by the people of the Pelican Lake culture between 3000 and 1500 years ago to mine chert. Chert is a sedimentary rock made of microcrystalline quartz. Its crystal structure causes it to chip in rounded sections with sharp edges, which makes it perfect for creating arrowheads and other tools!

Just an update that we will be closed both Monday, Oct. 12 and Wednesday, Oct. 14 for the holiday and private programming. We will resume our regular hours on Thursday (Open Everyday, 10:00am - 4:00pm) until Nov. 1st when we switch to Winter Hours.

Wild bison herds transform the lands they travel over, maintaining the delicate balance of Alberta’s prairie ecosystem. Bison hooves naturally aerate the ground they walk on, allowing Albertan soil to better absorb water. Their droppings also fertilize the ground and spread the seeds of important native plants.
