Congratulations to Carol Dahlquist of Wollaston Lake, winner of our Forest of Flowers 2026 quilt raffle!

Thanks to the incredible support of our community, the raffle raised $1,640 for the Wollaston Museum & Heritage Centre.

This beautiful quilt was custom made and donated by local quilters Wendy Mortimer of Coe Hill and Carol Moore of Bancroft, with long-arm quilting by Mandie Eddie of Coe Hill Quilts.

Thank you to everyone who supported the raffle and helped make it such a success.

The Coe Hill Fair is coming up this weekend, Friday and Saturday, August 28 and 29!

Be sure to stop by the Wollaston Museum & Heritage Centre booth for your last chance to get your 50/50 and quilt draw tickets, with proceeds from both helping to support the Museum.

Both draws will be held at 6 PM on Saturday at the close of the fair.

We’ll also have a selection of our local history booklets available for sale, so be sure to have a look while you’re there.

Stop in for a tour and explore some local history! While you’re here, make sure to take a peek through the fenced viewing area and see part of Coe Hill’s old mine.

Once again, we’ll have activities inside the Wollaston Museum & Heritage Centre from 12 to 4 p.m., followed by the Pig Roast from 4 to 6 p.m.

After a leave of absence for a wee bit of conservation work, the McGregor bagpipes are back on display at the Wollaston Museum & Heritage Centre. In 1857, James McGregor of Perthshire, Scotland, set sail from Liverpool with his family to begin a new life in Canada. Their third-class passage cost over £34. But James had with him a prize possession that cost even more: a set of Highland bagpipes purchased for the considerable sum of £40. Made for regimental use in the Crimean War, they never served that purpose. The McGregors were among the early settler families on The Ridge. In 1880, when Wollaston was incorporated as an independent township, McGregor became its first Reeve. He was well known as a piper from The Ridge to Eldorado. The bagpipes were the work of a well-respected maker, J.C. Cameron of Dundee. His time-worn maker's marks are just discernible in the photos below.
