Plan a gallery visit this week! “Hooking Goes Pop: Contemporary Rug Hooking” by Terri Whetstone and Rose Wilson ends August 29th, 2026.
Gallery hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10am-5pm.

This exhibition brings together two visual artists working with rug hooking, exploring contemporary approaches through technique, materials, and personal narrative as subject matter. Rug hooking, and fibre arts in general, has seen a surge in popularity in recent years, driven by people’s search for activities during the Covid pandemic and also by the development of new tools and novel materials. This exhibition highlights the emergence of new themes and ideas being expressed through rug hooking that go beyond the traditional motifs so often seen in our community. It seeks to encourage individual exploration of the medium as a form of self-expression and narrative (pictorial) story-telling.

Up next at ArtCan Gallery! September 2026.
"Permeable Absence" by Sarah Noonan, a multidisciplinary artist and poet from Epekwitk/ Prince Edward Island. They received a Master's degree in Contemporary Art from the Estonian Academy of Arts (2024) and a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Mount Allison University (2019).

✨Opening reception: Saturday, September 5th, 7-9PM. ✨
Exhibit continues until September 26, 2026.

Artist Statement:
I contemplate mytho-poetic interpretations of possible futures, transient ethos, and how physical connection recenters all life. To consider our world today I investigate what connects co-existing worlds through sculptures and installations. I find unconventional forms that challenge ideas of self hidden in themes like ecology, mysticism, and play. The disordered appearance and unrefined hand-sewing of my own clothes as material, often collides with my perspectives on what is sentimental, unstable and sensitive.
