🚴🌿 This Sunday is Loop Day! 🌿🚴

The Maritime Heritage Centre will be open to the public during our regular hours, 10 am to 2 pm, but please be aware that parking may be limited due to this fantastic community event.

Starting at 11 am, cyclists, runners, walkers, and other participants will begin a 28 km circumnavigation of our community, travelling through ocean vistas, greenways, rivers, and forests along the way.

We absolutely love the energy this event brings to Campbell River and the celebration of the incredible natural spaces that connect our community.

If you see participants along the route, give them a cheer as they pass by! And if you want to join in bring your bike at 11, or stop by Rotary Hall in the afternoon to have a beer for charity and support one of the on-site food trucks! πŸŒŠπŸŒ²πŸ‘

Did you know that today is World Sailing Day?

We have a beautiful little sailboat in our exhibits, that has an exceptional story behind it. Here is part one of a short documentary by Dominic Bakota about Arthur Barnes and the Margaret M. The rest of the story can be found on our YouTube Channel.

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

πŸŒŠπŸ“· Beneath the surface, there is a whole other world waiting to be explored.

Undersea exploration has helped us better understand the coast we call home, from deep water ecosystems to the remarkable marine life living just below the waves.

At the Maritime Heritage Centre, maritime history is not only about what travelled across the water, but also about the people who ventured beneath it. Divers, researchers, photographers, and explorers have all helped reveal the hidden side of our coastal story.

Undersea photography gives us a rare glimpse into places most of us will never see firsthand. Quiet forests of kelp, drifting jellyfish, colourful marine life, and the incredible textures and movement of life underwater.

The ocean still holds mysteries, and that sense of wonder never really goes away. βš“

πŸŒŠβš“ Preparations are well underway for Ocean Week 2026! βš“πŸŒŠ

We’re excited to once again be part of a week celebrating our connection to the ocean, with activities for creativity, learning, and community connection all happening the first week of June.

🎨 After the wonderful feedback we received last year, we are bringing back our Watercolour and Mindfulness Workshop the evening of June 4. Spaces are limited and registration is now open through our website.

🌊 Sea School returns on Wednesday, June 3 with outdoor after-school activities focused on ocean learning and exploration.

πŸ›βš“ And on Saturday, June 6, our Maritime Market will be joined by a whole wave of World Ocean Day festivities, making for a lively day at the Maritime Heritage Centre and along the waterfront.

There are still a couple of vendor spots remaining for the Maritime Market. If you have maritime or ocean-themed items, art, treasures, or creations to share, we’d love to hear from you.

Details and registration can all be found at:

Ocean Week is shaping up to be something special. We can’t wait to share it with you. 🌊

βš“πŸŒž Holiday Weekend Update πŸŒžβš“

The Maritime Heritage Centre will be closed Sunday and Monday for the holiday weekend.

But after that… summer season begins. β˜€οΈ

Starting next week, we’ll be open 7 days a week.

βš“ Monday to Friday
10 am to 4:30 pm

βš“ Saturday and Sunday
10 am to 2 pm

Why the earlier weekend closing time? Because while the museum may close in the afternoon, the building is often just getting started.

Weekends at the Maritime Heritage Centre are filled with weddings, celebrations of life, meetings, and community gatherings that deserve our full attention and care.

This building is more than a museum. It is a place where people come together to celebrate, remember, connect, and make memories.

We hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend and we look forward to seeing you this summer. βš“
