The Museum at Campbell River

I really enjoyed painting this, my rendition, of the CR Museum. I included the original Totem by Sam Henderson-1960's, The Empire Steam Donkey-1916, and the Soyokazi (cod fishing boat)-1939. These are all outdoor attractions to the museum yet you couldn't view them in a single picture. That's the beauty of creative painting. Our Museum building has very modern west coast architecture that is stunning in it's self. Inside there is a fantastic displays of the first nations herritage and an automated showing of tales of the lands. See recreations of the way old Campbell River was along with ever-changing displays and attractions.
I am definately proud of our city and our Museum represents it's history well

Myra Falls, Strathcona Park BC

Lower Myra Falls is a stunning series of cascades located on the southern end of Buttle Lake. It's a long, remote drive down the tight, twisting Westmin Mine road. An absolute paradise surrounds the glacier fed waters. A popular destination that has been the backdrop for many movies and TV series.

"The Big Pumpkin that was a bear" , a take on the folklore of the bear that turned to stone trying to leap across the Salish sea to the land, but it's back paw touched the water and it turned to stone. Better know as our Big Rock. This bear, on October 24th, turned into a pumkin 🎃

I am donating this to the Noon Rotary's Pumpkin for Polio Auction . I was approached by my long time friend Kim Schmid to make a pumkin themed painting for the cause. The Auction will have carved pumkins and other themed pieces. It will be held on OCTOBER 24TH, World Polio Day, at THE RIPTIDE PUB. Dinner and auction The goal is to eradicate polio worldwide. All monies raised are double matched by the Bill and Linda Gates foundation. Last year in Campbell River monies raised was $11,000, so in total $33,000 was donated. AMAZING

50th PARRALLEL, CAMPBELL RIVER

Campbell River is located on the 50th Parrallel on the east coast of Vancouver Island. This 50th P marker, that contains a time capsule, was placed on our Shoreline by the Rotary Club in 1974. It replaced the old worn marker that was actually in the wrong spot, found by modern GPS technology of the day.

I painted this from a colaberation of photos taken on September 1st. I often enjoy sitting on the driftwood along the beaches and watching the water traffic and goings on. Love where I live 🍁

Nice spread on Maurachalm Alpine Lodge
The Maurachalm is located in the northernmost part of the Grossarl Valley at 1,620 m and is the last stop on the Salzburg Alpine Trail in the Grossarl Valley. The Alm can be reached on foot or by mountain bike via the hiking trail or forest path.

"Fly-fishing the Campbell River "

Many avid fishermen line the banks of the Campbell River. The river is 4km long and is also fed by the Quinsam River. They have 4 of the 5 species of Pacific salmon; Chinook, Chum, Coho, and Pink with sea-run cutthroat trout and steelhead.
I painted this from a combo of my own photos. There are many trails along both these rivers and up into the Elk falls canyon where you can take in the scenery and watch the art of Fly-fishing

"DISMANTLING OF THE PENSTOCKS"

A piece of Campbell River's history. The dismantling of the BC Hydro penstocks. These penstocks used to carry water from John Hart Lake to the hydro-electric generation station at the Campbell river. They were 3.6m (12ft) diameter and ran 1.2km and were in use for 71years. A new tunneled underground generating station was constructed to replace the aging facility 100m below surface. 🖌 🎨

"TYEE CLUB", of British Columbia

In late-summer at dawn and dusk, the waters off Tyee Spit become all the more picturesque as the sleek Tyee boats row silently on the water. Evenings are my favourite, when you can grab a picnic and bring it to “the Spit” and sit on a piece of driftwood, watching the silhouettes of the fishermen and rowers against the sunset. Established in 1924, the Tyee Club is an internationally-recognized organization, with membership restricted to those that land a Tyee salmon – a Spring salmon weighing over 30 pounds, following a strict set of rules.
- no use of motors
- 20lb test line
- no shooting or harpooning
- unassisted catch of the fish
