2026 COMMUNITY CHAMPION AWARD RECIPIENT: Tim Adams

Tim Adams is the Founder and Executive Director of Free Play for Kids, a registered charity in Edmonton, Alberta, supporting more than 4,500 youth each year with opportunities to play, connect with mentors, and develop the social, emotional and mental health skills that last a lifetime.

The Community Champion Award was launched last November to celebrate grassroots coaches, mentors, and sport builders who make sport possible for kids across Canada, recognizing those who strengthen communities through the power of sport.

Tim Adams est le fondateur et directeur général de Free Play for Kids, un organisme caritatif enregistré à Edmonton, en Alberta, soutenant plus de 4 500 jeunes chaque année, leur offrant des occasions de jouer, de rencontrer des mentors et de développer les habiletés sociales, émotionnelles, et de santé mentale qui durent toute une vie.

A man as soft-spoken and introspective off the racetrack as he was intense on it, Gilles Villeneuve understood both the risks and rewards of F1 auto racing.

Gilles Villeneuve began racing snowmobiles at 17 and by 1974 was the world champion. A year earlier, however, he had begun pursuing his true passion--auto racing. In 1973, Gilles began racing on the Formula Ford series and was named the rookie of the year. The following year, he progressed to the more challenging Formula Atlantic circuit. He recorded his first victory in 1975, at Gimli, Manitoba, and won the series championship in both 1976 and 1977. Gilles attracted the attention of the elite Formula One racing circuit in 1977.

Gilles Villeneuve was awarded the Order of Sport and inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1983. Read his full story on the Hall of Famer Weekly Newsletter!

Timide et replié sur lui-même à l’extérieur de la piste, derrière son volant Gilles Villeneuve est un athlète intense bien au fait des dangers comme des avantages de la Formule Un.

Gilles Villeneuve fait ses débuts en course de motoneige à l’âge de 17 ans et en 1974 il est sacré champion du monde. Depuis déjà un an, il caresse le rêve de faire carrière en course automobile. En 1973, Gilles fait ses premiers pas dans la série de Formule Ford et est choisi la recrue de l’année. La saison suivante il effectue le saut en Formule Atlantique, un circuit où la concurrence est plus exigeante. Il décroche sa première victoire en 1975 à Gimli, au Manitoba, et remporte le championnat de la série en 1976 et 1977. Les prouesses de Gilles suscitent l’intérêt de certaines grandes écuries du circuit de la Formule Un en 1977.
