Welcome to The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, formerly Fort Calgary. Located where the Bow and Elbow rivers meet, The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, is a place of Indigenous gathering and ceremony steeped in thousands of years of tradition and history. Fort Calgary was built on the land at The Confluence in 1875 by the North-West Mounted Police. The land is home to many complex stories

that span thousands of years. The Confluence, through meaningful programming, strives to tell accurate stories rooted in this land from a variety of perspectives. Offerings include exhibits, talks, tours, workshops, youth education programs, summer camps, movies, art shows, concerts, festivals and venue rentals for social and corporate events. The summer's hot, but we're hotter! Hot Dogs & Hot Takes on History is BACK this month with the installment Passion Isn't a Budget Line: Calgary's History of Volunteerism! Get ready for some heat, it's going to be a spicy one! 🌭

What actually built Calgary? Oil and gas gets most of the credit, but this city runs on bake sales, bingo shifts, casino fundraisers, volunteer boards, coaching duties and people saying "yes" one too many times.

At this edition of Hot Dogs & Hot Takes on History, Josh Traptow takes a look at Calgary’s long history of volunteerism and why the model that helped build the city may be starting to crack under its own weight. Part history lesson, part civic reality check, this conversation explores how volunteerism became one of Calgary’s defining characteristics and whether we’ve started treating community spirit as an unlimited resource.

🗓️ Thursday, June 18
⏰ 7-8:30 pm
💲 $15
📍 750 9 Ave SE, Calgary, AB

Come for the hot dogs, stay for the realization that half of Calgary is being held together by committee meetings and someone’s very overworked calendar. 🔥
