Welcome to The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, formerly Fort Calgary. Located where the Bow and Elbow rivers meet, The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, is a place of Indigenous gathering and ceremony steeped in thousands of years of tradition and history. Fort Calgary was built on the land at The Confluence in 1875 by the North-West Mounted Police. The land is home to many complex stories that span thousands of years. The Confluence, through meaningful programming, strives to tell accurate stories rooted in this land from a variety of perspectives. Offerings include exhibits, talks, tours, workshops, youth education programs, summer camps, movies, art shows, concerts, festivals and venue rentals for social and corporate events. ⛓️NEW TRUE CRIME EXPERIENCE AT THE CONFLUENCE⛓️

Join us for hors-d'œuvres, drinks and a 90-minute outdoor tour that'll give you a glimpse into the day-to-day lives of those held behind bars at Fort Calgary’s prisons while also examining the pressures that strained these prisons and their operations.

This 18+ event begins in the replica 1888 Fort Calgary Barracks, where you’ll enjoy a specialty cocktail before embarking on a twilight walking tour of the parkland to spots significant to historical crime in Calgary. Discover the history of Fort Calgary’s own prison system and examine the stories of those who ended up behind bars, and beyond.

September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, is next Wednesday🧡.

This day honours the survivors of residential schools and the children who never returned home, as well as to recognize the inter-generational impact and trauma that residential schools continue to have on individuals, families, and communities. As part of our ongoing mission of reconciliation and decolonization, The Confluence will be offering a variety of free programming all day, including free admission to exhibits in the cultural centre, programming in tipis on the land, educational walking tours and more. The site will also host the City of Calgary Orange Shirt Day Program from 9-10:30 am.

This year, film is just the beginning. Alongside their incredible lineup of justice-focused films, CJFF is launching Culture in Action, bringing artists, musicians, spoken word performers, storytellers, and other creatives into the festival experience. Wander through The Confluence, discover something unexpected, and experience culture, creativity, and conversation in a space where everyone is welcome. 🍿

▪️ 9 Ave from 4 Street through Inglewood will be closed from 6-10 am for the Calgary Police Classic. While this is the anticipated timeline, it may be subject to change based on how the day goes.
▪️ Following this event, Dos Leches will be on site. We are expecting the parking lot to fill quickly, so please consider alternate modes of transportation, and take a look at alternative parking options at theconfluence.ca/parking

Sunday, Sept. 20
▪️ The Forever Canadian Calgary Concert for Unity is taking place from 2-7 pm. This events is expected to attract a large crowd, so parking may be impacted.

Are you interested in having a field trip at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland but are struggling to find the funds for it? You may be eligible for a school subsidy at The Confluence🏫.

✏️We offer a number of subsidies to schools according to their place on their school board’s list of high-need schools, and programs will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Our subsidies cover fees for one school bus to and from The Confluence and two school programs at The Confluence (Elementary and Jr. High options available!)

The first PD Day of the school year is next Friday, Sept. 25! We've got you covered with PD Day Camps at The Confluence 🎨There's a brand new line of themes this year, and we guarantee youth in Grades 1-6 a fun and engaging day out of the classroom.

What changes when Indigenous histories, relationships and ways of knowing and being are centred in a conversation about our past, present and future?

As the province heads toward a referendum on separation, the question of who Alberta belongs to — and what its borders mean — will be everywhere. But, there is a much older story underneath that question.

Ryan Crosschild invites us to explore the Blackfoot understandings of territory, boundaries and belonging as questions about the province's future intensify. Dive into deeper conversations about Treaty 7, settler relationships to Blackfoot territory and contemporary questions about overlapping Indigenous claims to place, to help understand what is at stake when talking about borders and separation.
