Mineral Monday x Minecraft: Bedrock 🪨

Bedrock in Minecraft is the unbreakable layer at the bottom of the world — you simply can’t get past it.

In real geology, bedrock is the solid rock beneath soil and loose ground. It’s not a mineral, and it’s definitely not indestructible — miners reach it and work through it every day using massive machines like our Cat® 793C Mining Truck.

See how Minecraft’s “final layer” compares to real-world mining. 🪨

Throwback Thursday: Stanley Cup fever, BC style! 🏒🏆

Check out the Britannia Beach Roller Hockey Team (year unknown). Long before today’s NHL stars hit the ice, our local mining community kept the game alive on pavement. Whether on ice or rollers, the dream of hoisting the Cup started right here in small towns like Britannia!

On May 19, 1975, the museum first opened its doors as the British Columbia Museum of Mining, beginning its journey to preserve and share the region’s rich mining heritage. In 2010, it was renamed Britannia Mine Museum, reflecting a renewed focus on storytelling, community, and the incredible history of the site.

Now, on May 19, 2026, we celebrate 51 years since opening day — and the continued legacy of a place that brings history to life for visitors from around the world.

Here’s to the stories, the people, and the place that keeps mining history alive.
