Behind Giants at Work: Big Jobs, Bigger Machines are months of planning, creating, problem-solving and teamwork.

From the very first ideas to the moment we finally saw the exhibits come to life, so many people behind the scenes poured their time, energy and passion into making this summer exhibit happen.

And there’s something pretty special about seeing all that hard work become something visitors enjoy and experience.

Now, it’s almost time to say goodbye.

The summer exhibit ends September 7, which means there’s only one week left to experience it!

Mineral Monday x Minecraft: Geodes 💜

In Minecraft, geodes are hidden underground crystal-filled formations, with layers of basalt and calcite surrounding beautiful amethyst crystals.

In the real world, geodes form when mineral-rich fluids seep into a hollow space in rock and gradually crystallize, creating stunning crystal-lined interiors. While Minecraft’s geodes always feature basalt, calcite, and amethyst, real geodes can contain a huge variety of minerals and colours, from purple amethyst to blue celestite and yellow citrine.

From a seemingly ordinary rock to a spectacular crystal-filled cavity, geodes remind us that you never know what might be hiding just beneath the surface. ✨

During Britannia Mine’s working life, as many as 60,000 people passed through the community.

According to employment records, Britannia’s residents between 1913 and 1958 represented 50 different nationalities and ethnicities, making Britannia a truly diverse mining community.

Their stories, cultures and contributions helped shape the community we remember today. 💛

Throwback Thursday: Commuting, mining style ⚒️

It’s August 1944, and miner Pat Flanagan is pictured inside the No. 8 mine cage. These elevators were the main way crews moved between levels of the underground workings. While it looks a bit tight, up to 12 workers would squeeze in for the ride down!

Made possible through Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage, Eve will support our Curatorial team while researching, planning and designing a small-scale exhibit for Museum visitors.

A North Vancouver local with a passion for history, culture and cinema, Eve is especially interested in archival objects like photo albums and home movies.

We’re excited to support Eve as she builds her skills and begins her career in the heritage sector!
