We’re thrilled to share a beautiful piece of Brandon’s curling heritage: the framed photograph and Walkerville Trophy from the 1904 Brandon Bonspiel, won over 120 years ago by the Oak River Rink. Our thanks to Terry Smith for entrusting them to us. These historic pieces will soon be on display in one of our rooms for all to enjoy.

Fifty years ago, on May 17, 1976, a group of dedicated citizens incorporated the Brandon Museum. Half a century later, we honour the founders whose vision built the institution we are proud to steward.

President: Colonel S. A. Magnacca
Vice-Presidents: G. P. Sutherland, Mrs. P. A. McPhail
Secretary: R. J. Coates
Treasurer: A. E. Shuttleworth
Directors: E. Garth Stouffer, Dr. H. W. Burmeister, Mrs. C. W. Disher, John McGregor, R. W. Brown, Mrs. F. J. Heeney, and Nick Auriti

Their words, inscribed on the plaque presented by Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Brown in 1978, still ring true: "The citizens of Brandon and district are greatly indebted to the above for the work they have done to make this museum possible."

Thank you to the founders, and to every volunteer, donor, and visitor who has carried this work forward. Here's to the next fifty years.

Today we’re celebrating International Tea Day with a piece of local history from the Daly House Museum collection.

This Daly Tea Company box, c. 1914–1920, was made for the Daly Tea Company of Brandon, Manitoba. The company received its provincial license on May 8, 1914, and appointed Charles S. Uniccume of 148-9th Street as its agent. Daly Tea Company operated in Brandon until the 1920s.

A simple box, but a reminder of tea’s cultural and economic significance, both globally and right here at home. We hope you get to enjoy a cup of tea today.

As we head into Victoria Day weekend, we’re sharing this archival photo of Queen Victoria and her children.

The Victorian era shaped so much of the architecture and daily life we preserve here at the Daly house museum.

While we are closed over the long weekend, we invite you to visit us Tuesday to Saturday from 10-4 to step inside and experience Victorian life right here in Brandon.

Wishing everyone a very a wonderful Victoria Day, we hope you enjoy the day!

Daly House Museum in partnership with the Brandon Embroiderers present The Art of Embroidery: Past and Present, an exhibit featuring over 100 embroidery pieces dating from the 1800s to the present, on view from March 7 to May 30, 2026.

Historically, embroidery has been associated with women and seen as a domestic craft rather than an art form. The pieces on display in The Art of Embroidery: Past and Present reflect how the craft has evolved from a domestic pastime into a modern prominent medium for fine art. The embroideries exhibited are unique and eye-catching imagery featuring a variety of media, such as metallic threads and hybrid techniques such as needle painting.

Members of the Brandon Embroiderers will be present at the opening event on Saturday March 7th at 2:00 pm to answer questions about the embroidery on display. Admission to the opening event is by donation.
