The Kangaroo City Poetry Collective was founded June 16, 1970 in Edmonton, Alberta as a collective of 13 Poets. Six poets were also members of the Northern Lights Poetry Collective and seven were also members of Two O'Clock Rap.
As of November, 2021, 12 of the poets have passed away, and the last surviving one, Karl von Harten, pseudonym K'lakokum, has formally disbanded the club.
Kangaroo City was the founder and host of The Canadian Poetry Hall of Fame in Brampton, Ontario from 1972 to 2021. The Hall of Fame is currently dormant.
