Not that I will ever liked trust or smash this that hard, but I figure if spine temper this anyway. Especially for the practice. I'm used to differentially quenching rather than tempering.

This... little knife (If someone wants tell me if the shape has a fancy name please go ahead and tell me!) is almost finished. I wanted to take a photo before I put oil on it. I think the bare wood looks really nice. The wood is from a piece of firewood from the customer's business.

Handle finished. It needed reprofiling of the blade spine and heel, but I'm content now. This knife has fought me the whole way. It was experimental with no clearly defined goals right from the start and I learned a lot from bumbling through the experiments. Still not my favourite, but...pleasing enough.


This all needs one more coat of oil and then a polish all over. But I like how it's looking.                            ...

Seax finished with sheath.
1095 with straight hamon. Etch pattern and blade shape based on a medieval Frankish seax museum piece. Handle in African Blackwood, ammonia fumed oak, copper inlay and peened copper ends. Thanks for some historical design tips and introducing me to the seax. It already has a home so this particular one is not available.
