Antigonish Heritage Museum This page is the Official page for the Antigonish Heritage Museum. Our site offers wheelchair accessibility. Ample parking for vehicles.

Our Mission Statement: The Antigonish Heritage Museum exists to preserve and promote a cultural understanding of the heritage of Antigonish Town and County. The Antigonish Heritage Museum features two main display rooms with exhibits that depict the history and material culture of our area. If you wish to make a contribution to our collection, please see our collections criteria. Our Resource Room contains many valuable reference materials available to researchers and genealogists. The collection includes photographs, published materials, community, church, school, family histories as well as census records, vital statistics, school registers and much more. The Antigonish Landing is just a short walk from the Museum. It is a popular birding and hiking area along the estuary of Antigonish Harbour.

Mi'kmaw History Month, Did you know?

300th Anniversary

2026 marks the 300th anniversary of the ratification of the Peace and Friendship Treaty of 1726. Mi’kmaw, Wolastoqiyik and Peskotomuhkati leaders gathered at Annapolis Royal to ratify the treaty, which was signed on the grounds of what is now Fort Anne National Historic Site.

Today is !!

International Credit Union Day is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October to honour the history, achievements, and community impact of the global credit union movement.

The Antigonish Movement, driven by the work of the Extension Department of StFX University, encouraged the establishment of credit unions and other cooperative institutions throughout the Maritime Provinces.

An appreciative crowd was on hand for a talk this evening by Dr Karly Kehoe of Saint Mary's University on the McNab family of McNab’s Cove, Cape Breton. We were particularly fascinated to learn about Frances, the unmarried daughter of the McNab pioneers who converted to Catholicism (much to the horror of members of her staunchly Presbyterian an family), and later came to Tracadie to teach at the convent of the Cistercian sisters in the 1840s. Travelling with Dr Kehoe were her Scottish research colleagues Dr Domhnall Uilleam Stewart of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and independent scholar Dr Malcolm Bangor-Jones.
