Nara Roesler is pleased to announce that ’s ‘Untitled’ (1982) has become part of the permanent collection at . This work belongs to a series of paintings Ohtake created between the mid-1970s and the 1980s. In these pieces, she established her distinctive, unparalleled style of figural abstraction, with round, organic volumes filling the visual field, treated through subtle color gradations and monochromatic expanses. The primary, nameless shapes that emerge within these masterfully crafted paintings are landmark examples of color-field mastery, striking a delicate balance between figuration and abstraction. This body of work exemplifies neo-avant-garde abstraction, transforming the legacy of Brazilian modernism into one of the most compelling repertoires of late-modern painting in the Americas. At this point, Ohtake’s oeuvre fully embraces a cosmic dimension, guiding her practice toward sculpture and real space.

Among the exhibitions featuring , Nara Roesler highlights her inclusion in the ‘Nucleo Storico’ of the 2024 Venice Biennale, curated by ; the exhibition .art, which includes a section held at the artist’s studio in São Paulo; and the exhibition ‘The Appearance: Art of the Asian Diaspora in Latin America & the Caribbean,’ co-curated by and , currently on view at in New York.

Works by Tomie Ohtake are part of Nara Roesler’s presentation at Paris, in the Premiers sector, in dialogue with works by Chico Tabibuia (1936-2007). Stay tuned to our socials to learn more about Nara Roesler at .
