ARTECAMPO como organización matriz de base de las artesanas campesinas, nace en 1985, como resultado de un proceso de organización, capacitación, intercambio de experiencias y apoyo mutuo entre los diferentes grupos de artesanas, apoyado por el Centro de Investigación, Diseño Artesanal y Comercialización Cooperativa (CIDAC). A la fecha, Artecampo aglutina a 600 familias y se ha afi
anzado como la organización matriz que congrega a 14 asociaciones locales de artesanas. En el seno de ARTECAMPO conviven y trabajan conjuntamente, mujeres indígenas de 4 etnias diferentes: guarayas, chiquitanas, ayoreodes e izoceñas. La producción de ARTECAMPO ha alcanzado un reconocido éxito de calidad, a nivel nacional e internacional y su comercialización crece sostenidamente. Con el trabajo conjunto de Artecampo y CIDAC, se han generado procesos autogestionarios de organización, capacitación, producción y comercialización, para cientos de familias de las zonas más olvidadas del departamento de Santa Cruz. Ha propiciado su estatus individual y como género. De manera significativa, la labor sistemática de Artecampo y CIDAC a lo largo de 15 años, ha contribuido al conocimiento, recuperación y revalorización de la identidad cultural de los pueblos indígenas del Oriente Boliviano. Las asociaciones de Artecampo han rebasado ampliamente los alcances del trabajo artesanal. La necesidad de enfocar de manera integral la lucha por una vida mejor, ha dado lugar a iniciativas como fondos de vivienda y salud, crédito agrícola, tiendas comunales, programas de recuperación de recursos naturales y otros, que tienden a involucrar a la mujer, a la familia y a la comunidad, en la búsqueda de alternativas de vida más dignas y humanas.

ARTECAMPO was created in 1985 as the central organization that unites 12 associations of indigenous groups of arts and crafts’ manufacturers. It has been the result of organizational chores as well as of training, exchange of experiences and mutual cooperation between existing groups of artisans. the whole process has been backed by the NGO CIDAC. To date, ARTECAMPO has a membership that covers over 1,020 families. Within the ARTECAMPO premises there are indigenous women of four different ethnic groups presently working: Guarayas, Chiquitanas, Ayoreodes and Izoceñas. Together, these women have achieved significant goals. ARTECAMPO´s products have reached a successful level of quality both at national and international levels, and its marketing goals are growing steadily. The tasks performed in unison by both ARTECAMPO and CIDAC have generated self-supporting work in the organizational, training, production and marketing spheres among several hundred families of the remotest areas of Santa Cruz. It has also encouraged groups and individuals to value themselves, strengthening their personal and collective as well as cultural talents. During the last 15 years, ARTECAMPO and CIDAC have both contributed systematically to the knowledge, retrieval and given renewed values to the cultural identities of the indigenous inhabitants of Eastern Bolivia. Associated groups under ARTECAMPO have deservedly accomplished their hand crafts manufacturing and related goals. The need to to improve the living conditions of the craftswomen has given way to a series of initiatives covering health and housing funds, agricultural loans, community shops, recovery of natural resources and other projects than tend to involve women, their family and the community in search of more dignified and humane life-styles.
