We verwelkomen je graag op 5 september voor de feestelijke opening van de 11de editie van The Eyes of the Heart and the Soul of the World, gecureerd door ! Met veertien kunstenaars en vijf locaties, waaronder een permanent werk in de publieke ruimte, valt er heel wat te ontdekken.

We zijn erg fier om de hoofdpartner van deze doorstarteditie te zijn! Kunsthal Mechelen is niet alleen het startpunt van het parcours maar co-produceerde ook de tentoonstelling. Één ding is zeker: deze editie wil je niet missen!

We’re already looking forward to celebrate the opening of Contour Biennale 11! This starting edition, curated by Sofia Lemos, is promsing to become unforgettable. With fourteen artists and five locations, including a permanent work in public space, there’ll be a lot to discover!

We are very proud to be the main partner of this new edition! Kunsthal Mechelen is not only the starting point of the exhibition route, but also co-produced the exhibition. One thing is certain: this is an edition you won’t want to miss!

Laatste weekend!
'FLOOR ROOF' van en is een performance en installatie over wat een thuis betekent. Het werk onderzoekt hoe je zorg draagt voor je thuis en hoe je dat met je meedraagt wanneer je verhuist.

Tijdens de opening droegen de kunstenaars het huis naar binnen en pakten ze het uit als onderdeel van de installatie. Op de finissage brengen ze opnieuw een performance, deze keer over het inpakken van het huis.
Kom zondag 9 augustus om 16u kijken en mis het niet!

'FLOOR ROOF' by Jiyoung Chu and Thuy Lê Thi Thu is performance-installation circles around the idea of car(ry)ing a house.

During an opening performance, the house was carried in and installed. During the finissage they'll bring a performance about packing the house again. Be sure to check it out this Sunday 9th of August at 16h!

Deze zondag is al de laatste dag van Wayward Sanctuaries! Voor de tentoonstelling doorreist naar Amsterdam organiseren we nog een finissage op 9 augustus.

Eerst geven de kunstenaars een rondleiding. Heb je deze tijdens de opening gemist? Dan is dit je kans! Daarna doen en nog een performance.

This Sunday will already be the last day of Wayward Sanctuaries! Before the exhibition travels to Amsterdam we'll be organizing a last couple of events on the 9th of August.

First the artists will be giving a guided tour. Missed the one on the opening? Here's another chance! Afterwards there will be a performance by Jiyoung Chu and Thuy Lê Thi Thu

Nog twee weken!
'Knockin' on Heaven's Door' van is een installatie die de vorm aanneemt van een witte heuvel, waarop de sculptuur lijkt te rusten.

Het werk denkt na over de melancholie van het terugkijken, en het vreemde verlangen dat je als kind hebt om al te weten wie je als volwassene zou worden.

‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door’ by Elise El Yousfi is an installation that takes the form of a white hill, where the sculpture seems to rest.

The piece reflects on the melancholia of looking back, and the strange desire, as a child, to already know the adult self one would become.

Laatste twee weken!
Consultation van verkent het plengoffer als gebaar en ritueel.

De werken zijn geen passieve objecten, maar fungeren als bemiddelaars tussen mensen, geesten en de natuurlijke omgeving, samengebracht in een levend verbond.

'Constultation' by Aïcha Ouattara explores water libation as a liquid offering that momentarily opens the veil between visible and invisible worlds.

The artworks aren't passive containers but operate as mediators in which humans, spirits, and the natural environment remain bound in a living covenant.

Sinds kort kan je op de gevel van de Garage de volgende poster van PLAKT zien. In Letter to my future self van zien we een oude postkaart waarop een kind een brief in een brievenbus steekt.

Het beeld oogt zacht en nostalgisch, maar roept grote vragen op: wie waren we vroeger? Wie zijn we nu? En wie hopen we te worden? Het werk nodigt je uit om even stil te staan bij je eigen groei en de persoon die je nog aan het worden bent.

PLAKT is een samenwerking met waar posters verspreid worden in kunstencentra over heel België.

Recently the next poster of the PLAKT series was hung on the façade of the Garage. In ‘Letter to my future self’ by Aline Bouvy we see an old postcard on which a child delivers a letter to a letterbox.

The image feels soft and nostalgic but boils up some questions: who were we in the past? Who are we now? And who do we hope to become? The work invites you to stand still and reflect at your own growth and the person you’re still becoming today.

PLAKT is a collaboration with Artlead in which posters are shown at different art centres spread across Belgium.

De performance ‘Eyes on You, Eyes on Us’ van onderzoekt de blik als een lichamelijke ervaring. In ruimtes waar iemand hyperzichtbaar wordt, reageert het lichaam voor het denken.

De uitgeknipte hoofden en chillipepers in 'Que reste-il' weerspiegelen de aanhoudende blik en de behoefte om zich daartegen te beschermen.

The performance ‘Eyes on You, Eyes on Us’ by Kadia Doumboiya explores the gaze as an embodied experience. In spaces where one becomes hyper-visible, the body reacts before thought.

In 'Que-reste-il' the cut-out heads and chilli peppers, slightly lifted from the wall echo the persistence of the gaze: the push and pull between being seen and the need to protect oneself from it.

‘Gossip’ van onderzoekt magie en spreuken onderzoekt als rituelen van solidariteit tegen de fascistische krachten in onze samenlevingen.

Het ritueel is hier niet voltooid: de drie stukken moeten op drie afzonderlijke locaties worden geplaatst en door anderen worden gezien, opdat de spreuk volledig effect heeft.

‘Gossip’ by Charbel Alkhoury explores magic and spellwork as potential militant rituals of solidarity against the fascist forces occupying our societies.

The ritual is not complete here: the three pieces formed from the melted material must be placed in three separate locations and seen by others for the spell to take full effect.

‘Kamber di Abuelita’ van herverbeeldt de familiefotowand in het huis van Emily Walters grootmoeder als een ruimte waar herinneringen voortdurend worden herschapen.

Met ‘Kamber di Abuelita’ nodigt Walter de kijker uit om na te denken over herinnering en bewaring als iets wat we kunnen bouwen, uit elkaar halen en opnieuw samenstellen — eindeloos, en samen.

‘Kamber di Abuelita’ reimagines the family photo wall in Emily Walter’s grandmother’s house as a space where memory is continuously reshaped.

With ‘Kamber di Abuelita’, Walter invites the viewer to reflect on memory and preservation as something we can build, disassemble and rebuild — endlessly, and together.

‘mon sanctuaire.mp4’ van is een verkenning van wat ‘sanctuary’ voor de kunstenaar betekent. Het kan een gevoel zijn, of zelfs een ervaring. Het laat je gewoon zijn.

‘delacroix’s pitch’ verwijst naar Pierre Delacroix uit Bamboozled. Hij probeert een racistisch systeem te slim af te zijn, maar versterkt het uiteindelijk alleen maar. De twee werken samen belicht de spanning tussen een op winst gericht cultureel landschap en de kwetsbaarheid van kunst zelf.

‘mon sanctuaire.mp4’ by Kenny Mala Ngombe is an exploration of what sanctuary means to him. It can be a feeling, or even an experience. It allows you to simply be.

‘delacroix’s pitch’ references Pierre Delacroix, from Bamboozled. Motivated by the industry’s pressure to succeed, he tries to outsmart a racist system but ultimately ends up reinforcing it. The juxtposition of both works highlight the tension between an objective, profit-driven cultural landscape and the vulnerability of art itself.
