Since 15 August, 40 Belgian Defence firefighters have been supporting wildfire response operations in the High Fens. While civilian firefighters are tackling the flames directly, Defence firefighters operate from a greater distance, supplying large volumes of water with six Panther vehicles. Together, they help protect the region as part of Defence’s Aid to the Nation mission. 🚒🤝

The flight that marked the perfect end to the Youth Camp 🚁

🚁 What if you chose to spend part of your summer taking on a real challenge? 🪖

For one week, these young people stepped out of their comfort zones and experienced life in Defence at Beauvechain Air Base.

From sleeping in tents and military drill to camouflage, map reading and navigation, every day brought new challenges. They pushed their physical and mental limits, learned to work as a team and discovered what they are capable of.

During the week, they also took part in first aid training, discovered the work of K9 teams and military firefighters, and received an introduction to CBRN procedures (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear).

It was an intense and rewarding week filled with learning, teamwork and unforgettable experiences. Above all, it was a chance to build confidence, develop resilience and create lasting memories.

Congratulations to all these young people for their motivation, commitment and enthusiasm throughout this amazing adventure!
