Charles Pierre Joesph Normand (1765
- 1840)
Personification of the River
This delightful pen and ink drawing, after Nicolas Poussin (French, 1594-1665), of a River God and mythological figures. This drawing depicts the personification of a river alive and conscious, enhancing themes of journey, exploration, and the river’s unstoppable force.
This was probably drawn for the 18th-century publication Annales du Musée et de l’École moderne des beaux-arts, which served as a comprehensive resource on European art and artists before the 19th century.
