We are excited to announce a new chapter for our annual exhibition and art fair, Hawkesubry Now 🌟

Hawkesbury Now is a program dedicated to showcasing contemporary art from artists living in the Hawkesbury Local Government Area (LGA). Historically, the program has been developed closely with local art societies and creative groups across North-West Sydney.

From Monday 15 June, the program will open via an Expression of Interest (EOI) process. All artists living within the Hawkesbury LGA, including both members of local art societies and independent artists with a strong connection to the region, are invited to apply. This process replaces the previous model and ensures all artists are assessed through the same open and transparent EOI application process.

This exciting change follows valuable feedback from exhibiting groups and independent artists, alongside a review of the program aligned with the Hawkesbury City Council Cultural Plan.

Applications open on Monday 15 June 2026 and close after six weeks on Sunday 2 August 2026. For more information, including eligibility criteria, please visit the gallery website: https://www.hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au/gallery/events-and-programs/hawkesbury-now

Learners will be broken into two groups based on age (5-8 years and 9-13 years). While preschool aged children will not be able to participate in the program, they are welcome in the Gallery space with parental supervision. Parents are required to remain within the Gallery throughout the workshop.

In Jennifer Brady’s practice, home is explored as a place of memory, safety and rest. Working with textiles sourced from her own home and donated by others, the artist transforms familiar domestic materials into quiet spaces for reflection. Bedding, blankets and mattress protectors, objects closely connected to everyday routines of comfort and care, now invite audiences to imagine a temporary sense of home – one that is calm, open and safe.

The installation 'Untitled (space to think feel learn grow)' offers a moment of calm within the gallery, encouraging audiences to consider their own emotions and experiences of home, and the memories that can be held within everyday domestic materials.

For artist Carol Gill, home is inseparable from the landscape that surrounds it. For more than 35 years she has lived in the Hawkesbury, where the natural environment, with its beauty, history, and seasonal extremes, forms both the backdrop to daily life and a constant source of inspiration. Gill’s practice reflects a profound awareness of the physical environment she inhabits, exploring how being surrounded by the land shapes her sense of belonging and connection.

Created using hanji (mulberry paper), watercolour and ink, Gill’s works highlight both the fragility and resilience of the environment that defines her home. Through them, the artist invites viewers to consider how the physical landscape shapes our experience of home, and the deep connections that arise from living closely within it.
