Wenty Voices / Wentworthville Now and Then Through this page I aim to share information and stories that I write about my home town

If you're interested in sharing your Wenty memories, experiences or pictures please send them through. Depending on the response I get I may write a book based on some of this information at a later date. If your information is selected for inclusion in a book I'll contact you about completing a release form.

Thanks to Ken Sabotic for sharing these photos from his days at Wentworthville RSL Youth Amateur Swimming Club.

The first photo shows club members including Ken, Mark Riddell and Grant O'Dell (middle row far right).
The fourth photo shows Grant O'Dell and Kathy Swindlehurst at a Surf Lifesaving Carnival.
The fifth photo shows Ken with Kevin Johnston and G*i Riddell.

Can anyone name any other names in these great photos? :0)

Something for the folk bordering Merrylands.

In 1967, the first soil was turned for the construction of the Merrylands Swimming Centre. Then Mayor Bob Devlin is at the controls of the machinery.

..... and while I'm on the subject of Wenty RSL Youth Club, I'd be very remiss if I didn't mention the Amateur Swimming Club that was run under the Youth Club umbrella.

Many great swimmers started their careers here.

Most of the photos are from my family's archive, and I recognise George Maunder and Bill Chambers as two of the presenters of the awards. Does anyone recognise who the other blokes are?

The 1969 Zone 4 Swimming Rep. badge is courtesy of Dorothy Warwick.

Wenty RSL Youth Club received its affliation certificate on 8th February 1963, and operated for at least the next couple of decades.

I can't remember where I found that affiliation certificate, but the membership card is all mine (anyone else got one of those?). :0)

Recently, I've shared a couple of rugby team photos from Wenty RSL Youth Club, but we can't forget that the club also ran gymnastics classes.

Thanks to Craig Calder, for sharing this photo of the Wentworthville RSL Youth Club u/16 team that went to NZ in 1973.

I’ll bet there’s plenty of great memories from that tour to share, or maybe keep quiet about. ;0)
