Museum of the Riverina

Museum of the Riverina Social history museum with two sites featuring our permanent collection and temporary and travelling exhibitions

Over two sites, the Museum of the Riverina tells stories about the people and events which have helped shape Wagga Wagga and the Riverina region. We’re responsible for collecting and caring for more than 15,000 objects, photographs, textiles and paper-based materials which help to tell those stories. The Museum of the Riverina is a cultural facility of Wagga Wagga City Council.

A remarkable piece of Wagga Wagga’s history needs our help.

The Kangaroo March Banner is one of only three known World War I recruitment banners held in museum collections across Australia. Carried during the 1915 Kangaroo March, it stands as a powerful reminder of our region’s ANZAC history and the people who came together in a defining moment for Wagga Wagga.

More than 100 years on, this nationally significant object now requires specialist conservation.

Museum of the Riverina is calling for donations to the Kangaroo March Banner Appeal, and we’re inviting our community to help preserve this important piece of local history for future generations.

You can see the banner on display at Museum of the Riverina Botanic Gardens site until 26 July.

Every donation makes a difference.

We're super exicited about our upcoming Rare Trades Weekends Winter Session: Spoon Carving

Join artisan woodworker Ash Credlin of AC Woodworks for a weekend celebrating traditional craftsmanship, recycled timber, and the beauty of slow making.

But be quick! There's just 1 space left for Saturday's spooncarving workshop.

But don't worry, if you miss out on the workshop, you can still experience the craft in action through live demonstrations and explore the stories hidden within every handcrafted piece.

Are you looking to get hands on with history?

If the answer is yes, Family History Holidays is hosting their first Hand-On History Experience next month in Wagga Wagga, exploring the famous Tichbourne Claimant.

Check out the post below to find out more.

The story started in Wagga Wagga and made headlines around the world. It involved a butcher, a baronetcy β€” perhaps a few lies along the way β€” and a trial that went on for years.

We're going deep on the Tichborne Claimant story this June and we'd love you to join us.

Family History Holidays is hosting its first Hands-on-History Experiences event in Wagga Wagga on 12-13 June 2026, featuring guest family historian Brad Argent.

There are two ways to be part of it:

πŸ“† Friday 12 June: The Workshop.
A half-day session at the Museum of the Riverina for local heritage groups and history lovers. From $30.

πŸ“† Saturday 13 June: The Discovery Day.
A full private day of curated experiences, local experts and good food. Includes two nights’ accommodation at The Houston. $500 per person (twin share).

No Wagga connection? No problem. Curiosity is the only requirement.
