Srs Carmel and Kaye’s Walk of Honour Plaque

In front of family and friends, our very own Wagga Wagga Presentation Sisters, Srs Carmel Wallis and Kaye Bryan, were permanently honoured last week as two of Wagga’s most dedicated community champions.

On Thursday, May 21st 2026, a plaque honouring Srs Carmel and Kaye was unveiled as the 44th additions to Wagga’s Walk of Honour for their founding and establishment of ErinEarth and for actively educating our community about sustainable living and environmental issues.

Congratulations Srs Carmel and Kaye!!!!

Sew, I need(le) to tell you about one of our biggest but hidden collections at the MEHC…

In the Presentation Sisters Room and the room linking us to the Mt Erin Chapel, we have an exquisite selection of fine Irish Lace items. The photos for this week’s post are just a few of the items we have. Like all our items, it is the stories behind them that are really intriguing.

Nano Nagle, Founder of the Presentation Sisters, began teaching lace making to the poor children in Ireland. This gave the children a skill and means to earn an income, because lace was keenly sought after by the wealthy at the time.

The Presentation Sisters were skilled in this craft and they, in turn, passed it on by teaching it to their students – not as a means of income, but as a worthwhile life skill.

If you have an interest in craft, textiles, crochet, lacemaking or sewing – come for a visit and see it for yourself. We would love to see you!

The original St Eugene’s stage powerboard has just moved into the Music & Drama section of the MEHC. It’s been hiding in the shadows for some time so we thought we should shine some light on it for a change.

Yesterday almost 200 Yr 7 Kildare Catholic College students held their Belonging Day.

The MEHC is part of this each year to connect the new students to the history of the schools that have been on the Mt Erin site, and their Presentation Sisters Wagga Wagga heritage.

A special thank you to our wonderful volunteers Carol Ingram, Trish Galloway and Susan Todd along with Sr Barbara Webber, that gave up their time to present to the groups throughout the day.

This year marks 60 years of friendship for this group of girls who began at Mt Erin in 1966.

It was the era of stockings (and suspenders belts, compulsory hats and gloves and regulated hemlines that were measured with a 12 inch ruler as you knelt on the platform.

The girls’ friendship has endured and those living in Wagga continue to meet on a regular basis to share memories .
