Speedwell & Malvern Star were the main Australian manufacturers of these cycles used for transport & carrying parts around the bases. They were heavier duty frames mainly BSA lugs or Australian copies of them, they also had bracing on the front forks & rear racks The Army bikes were painted Khaki Green, Navy = Royal Blue, Air Force = Yellow.
The Air Force also used them to train pilots with simulated formations on bikes with a small wing mounted on top of the handlebars to look more like a plane.
Specs of bike are:
Wheels: 28 x 1-3/8” Westwood rims, Coaster brake, Olympic Tyres original made in Australia.
Cranks Williams, Chainring BSA
Saddle: Sprung Bell (made in Australia)
Rear rack will be added next week.
