Celebrating 30 Years!

Yesterday marked 30 years since the first Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi was held on the 2km Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk. As part of our 30th anniversary celebrations we are pleased to send you these images from the first exhibition that was held on 3 May, 1997 for just the one day with 64 sculptures. Run by a team of volunteers the exhibition had a marketing budget of just $400 and 25,000 people turned up.

Over the coming months we will post images from each of the Bondi exhibitions over the last 30 years, as well as our other Sculpture by the Sea exhibition at Cottesloe Beach in Perth and the permanent Snowy Valleys Sculpture Trail, that have been made possible by the artists and public response to the early Bondi exhibitions.

The Iconic NSW Pine Forest 4 Hours From Sydney Is Back With An Open-Air Sculpture Museum!

Four years after the devastating Black Summer fires, a beloved NSW icon has risen from the ashes with misty mountain views.

Nearby, the new Bago Sculpture Forest surprises visitors with its jaw-dropping scale. Integrated into the site, these world-class art installations transform the forest into an open-air museum, with standout works like Grid Study IV by Stephen King set against the pine forest backdrop.

Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe 2026 came to a close on Monday 23 March.

This year's exhibition featured 14 artists whose sculptures are in permanent exhibition in the Snowy Valleys Sculpture Trail.

Today, we would like to highlight the work of Harayuki Uchida (Japan) whose sculpture 'Dancing Light' was exhibited along Cottesloe beach.

'This sculpture sways with the wind, reflecting shifting light. Though appearing unstable, hidden magnets restore its balance...' Uchida continues, 'Dancing Light explores movement, tension, and harmony, inviting viewers to witness the dance of wind, light and form.'

His sculpture ‘‘Thinking Red’, can be located at Courabyra Wines, in Tumbarumba.

Uchida has exhibited at Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe ten times since 2008 and Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi ten times since 2006.
