In 1996 the Loco Shed North Queensland was formed as a regional committee of the ARHS – QLD Division with the aim of bringing together people with a shared interest in capturing and preserving the railway history of North Queensland. In 1996 the Loco Shed North Queensland was formed as a regional committee of the Australian Railway Historical Society QLD Division with the aim of bringing together

people with a shared interest in capturing and preserving the railway history of North Queensland. This locomotive was built by International General Electric in Schenectady NY USA. The class was renumbered twice with the class leader eventually becoming 1150. Condemned in February 1988 it was purchased by the ARHS in 1995. Restoration work began in Townsville in 1998 but was halted indefinitely in early 2005 with the loss of our then workshop facility. The Loco Shed has now moved into a new a facility at the Bohle in Townsville where we are able to continue the restoration work. The Loco Shed welcomes anyone with an interest in all things Railway. Our Story

Are you interested in preserving North Queensland’s railway heritage?

With a Big workshop at the Bohle, members of LocoShed NQ enjoy collecting, restoring, preserving and displaying North Queensland’s railway heritage for the benefit, enjoyment and education of the local community. LocoShed NQ has two vintage diesel locomotives – the Yank, 1150 and the Pommy, 1263, the last of their era. We also have an interesting collection of rollingstock, documents, printed material and other railway memorabilia.

New members are always welcome.
